Overview of Role
Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
I also assist in conducting site inspections, tracking progress, and ensuring compliance with design specifications. My responsibilities include data collection, CAD drawing interpretation, and quality assurance tasks, such as maintaining inspection test plans (ITPs) and risk assessments.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
Additionally, working with experienced engineers and site teams has helped me develop both professionally and personally.
Skills Development
Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
In addition to technical skills, I have enhanced my problem-solving and communication abilities by working with engineers, contractors, and site managers. I have also developed a stronger understanding of health and safety regulations, risk assessments, and quality control processes, ensuring compliance with industry standards.
Structure and Support
How well organised/structured is your programme?
Regular progress reviews help keep me on track, and my mentors provide guidance and support throughout. However, at times, scheduling can be challenging due to site demands and workload. Additionally, there may be room for improvement in how study and university blocks are structured to better align with site commitments. Overall, the program ensures I gain the necessary skills and experience to progress towards my EngTech qualification successfully.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
Support is also available for my academic studies, with opportunities to ask questions and gain practical insights that relate to coursework. However, there are times when workload and site commitments can make it challenging to balance studies but this is the nature of a degree apprenticeship. Overall, my employer is invested in my development and ensures I have the resources needed to succeed.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
However, while the qualification is valuable, there are times when the content does not fully align with site-specific challenges. Some topics are more theoretical, and additional hands-on training or case studies could enhance the practical application of what is learned. More integration between academic learning and workplace tasks would help bridge this gap.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
Some colleagues also participate in charity events and sports teams that are organized within the company, providing an excellent chance to connect with others outside of the workplace in a more relaxed setting.
