Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
Service delivery engineer for Openreach, this job involves provided end to end solutions for the end user providing new copper lines or fixing faults. I will log into the my jobs app each morning and have a list of jobs to complete it is then up to me how I manage my time to ensure the jobs are complete within the required time frame
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
4/5
I have enjoyed the programme overall, it was a little slow to start with mainly due to the pandemic kicking in right at the start but once I was assigned an assessor and given direction I found the programme to be well paced and easy to understand. I would recommend.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
4/5
I started the role with a lot of customer service experience having a background in retail but no technical skills, during the apprenticeship I have developed all the technical skills to competently and safely complete all jobs and am continuing to learn new skills such as broadband and underground skills.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
4/5
As I said in the previous question, the programme was slow to start due to covid but once I was assigned an assessor and given direction the programme was well structured and organised. All sessions were online which worked fine and if any extra support was needed Tony (the assessor) was always available to support.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
4/5
Openreach have been very supportive throughout the programme giving me any time I required without any issues, they have supported me with any extra training needs through buddying and phone calls and checked in regularly throughout the programme to make sure that everything was going well. Support has continued since finishing the programme.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
5/5
I have had all the support I needed whilst I was working towards my qualifications. [This section of the comment has been removed by a member of the Higherin Team because it did not meet our site terms and conditions] (the assessor) was always available either at end of the phone, via email or through teams, he would provide direction and feedback as required and was approachable and friendly making it easy to ask for any support needed.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
4/5
The qualification helped cement my knowledge of the role technically as well as gave me more knowledge of different programmes I use whilst in role so overall I would say that it did help. At times I found some of the modules a little bit simple but other than that it was fine.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
3/5
Currently due to covid there have not been any extra curricular activities however I know there have been in the past and there are plans going forward for extra activities to happen once the pandemic is over. In the past there has been 5 a side football games and Christmas parties etc.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend BT Group to a friend?
Yes
Why?
Since joining Openreach I have had a very positive experience, I have felt valued, had plenty of opportunities to develop and have felt part of a team. The pay is very competitive and there are opportunities to move anywhere within Openreach once you have completed the apprenticeship. I would definitely recommend.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to BT Group?
Be yourself in the interview, remember that you do not need have any technical knowledge of the job as that is taught to you in a well thought out manner. Customer service and working safely is the most important thing when applying for the job, the rest can be taught.
