Commercial Manager Review

I worked as a product manager across two business communication solutions. My day to day ranges a lot, I have had tasks from revenue assurance, creating and giving presentations on product performance or product training etc, owning software development releases, meeting and speaking to a range of people including external partners and much more. It all depends what's hot at the moment!

I was given a lot of responsibility, far more than I thought initially. I was given opportunities to complete tasks with outcomes that directly affect the performance of my team. For example I was asked to help resolve billing disputes between customers and us, as well as report all key billing information into the billing manager. I was also given the opportunity to present frequently to director level employees.

Industrial placements offer great opportunities to gain skills that you can't learn at university without practical experience. There are loads of opportunities to learn networking / communicative skills, story telling, stakeholder management, adaptation. These are some of the key skills I have developed that I didn't get great exposure to at university.

I worked in a great team who were always available to offer support. My manager also made sure that I had all of the guidance that I need and made it known that if I needed anything I could go to them. There are also a lot of training opportunities and this is encouraged.

The company is filled with friendly people who are all working together. There is also a great work - life balance.

I enjoyed my placement greatly and it is a fantastic company to work for, especially if you are interested in telco or tech industry.
