Register Your Interest - Financial Crime Placement
Primary Purpose of the Job
The Internal Control Systems (ICS) function provides a central service to the whole VWFS UK organisation and forms a key part in developing a positive approach to risk management within the Company’s business strategy, ensuring consistent standards are adopted and acting with integrity at all times.
The role supports those advising Volkswagen Financial Services in the UK who protect the business from operational, business, and financial crime / money laundering risks.
It will involve working within a fast-paced commercial environment to ensure that strategic and business objectives are delivered whilst operational and business risks are monitored and controlled. The role itself covers a broad spectrum of activities, although primarily focusing on detection and prevention of financial crime with a broad view on corporate governance and business continuity management
The role will allow the incumbent to learn a range of financial crime detection tools, and to understand a risk-based approach, methods and disciplines used and how these are interpreted.
Main Responsibilities
Support the team to ensure that FCU:
- Protects the business from financial crime across all portfolios engage in a pro-active approach to the prevention, detection and disruption with investigations, analysis, clear and accurate documentation, use of and provision of criminal intelligence to the appropriate authorities.
- Deliver best in class fraud prevention service, assessing customer behaviour patterns and associated risks.
- Prepare Suspicious Activity Reports (SARs) in line with the Proceeds of Crime Act and Terrorism Act, for approval and submission to the National Crime Agency as and when suspicion or knowledge arises. Produce clear and accurate witness statements to support reports of fraud or theft, providing exhibits for evidencing purposes for use in Court.
- Apply appropriate and compliant financial crime prevention processes to safeguard VWFS and its customers.Ensure that VWFS acts in a compliant and controlled manner.
- Operate with appropriate framework of policies and controls for assessing and monitoring the financial crime risk.
- Understand the impact of new legislation and regulations on the firm’s business activities to assist the team in identifying potential changes to the risk environment and the subsequent evaluation of the adequacy of key controls in place to mitigate and manage those risks.
- Participate on key business projects, as required.
- Work with the ICS team to ensure a consistent delivery of risk related services to the business.
- Support ICS workflows.
Skills and Experience
- Studying towards a business-related degree.
- Demonstrates an understanding of regulatory principles, sources, and interpretation.
- Good interpersonal and collaborator skills.
- Resilient and self-motivated with the capability to work under own initiative.
- Ability to learn and apply new or unfamiliar knowledge quickly.
- Methodical, analytical, and disciplined approach to work.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- High attention to detail.
- Excellent PC skills, especially MS Office applications such as Excel and Word.
