Primary Purpose of the Job

Reporting to the Senior Controls Accountant, this role contributes to the production and follow up of a number of key monthly control balance sheet reconciliations to support the product portfolio and the investigation of balances and reconciling items. It will also include the production of monthly KPI’s for the team

A large part of the role will be to support the Accounting Controls team members with the emphasis on learning the financial products we support and the systems used. This will require cross functional working with other departments therefore Stakeholder management is a key requirement.

Main Responsibilities

• To complete all relevant Balance Sheet reconciliations in a timely manner, providing summarized information for management. These include Contract Management system and SAP FI accounts across our product range
• Carry out month end tasks, including analysis in accordance with the month end timetable
• Understand the interaction and impact of subsidiary systems on the main accounting systems to ensure system integrity, particularly in relation to specific Balance Sheet and Profit & loss accounts, highlighting issues as necessary
• To assist with any accounting initiatives as required collaborating with colleagues across the department and in IT to ensure clarity of issues/requirements for changes relating to accounting transactions.
• Carry out analysis to deliver operational / management information to differing audiences.
• Support colleagues within the Accounting Controls Team as required
• Perform/Support UAT where appropriate to ensure that key controls are included within testing to deliver a robust solution
• Build, update and support with process improvements
• Continuously update process documents, procedures and posting books

Principal Contacts / Working Relationships

• IT – Business Objects. Liaising with developers when fixing/specifying new reports
• IT – Small Change. Liaising with Developer/UAT on small change that impacts the Controls team
• Customer Operations – Retail and Fleet – solving queries, understanding business processes that drive financial postings
• Finance Operations – Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable, collaborating on investigations, processes and financial postings

Key Challenges

Understanding the make-up of the balance sheet, how this relates to the different products we offer and different accounting rules that are used for different products. Also by understanding the balance sheet, what data represents the balances and the profitability of products and developing analytical data to evidence this.

Education, Training and Experience

• Studying towards a Finance or Business related degree
• Strong analytical skills
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills to collaborate with both Finance and non-Finance staff

Skills and Personal Characteristics Required

• Excellent knowledge of Excel and Office applications (minimum Intermediate level in Excel)
• Eye for detail and focus on accuracy
• Self-motivated and a strong team player
• Ability to work flexibly under pressure in order to meet strict deadlines
• Ability to react effectively to resolve problems
• Ability to manage relationships with multiple stakeholders
