To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
3/5
I now really enjoy my role and look forward to progressing now I understand and have skills and knowledge.
for the duration of the ASW apprenticeship I really struggled to learn so much from what I can and cant do, illnesses, pathways across south Yorkshire, numbers such as observations, illnesses, ECG interpretation.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
4/5
I have learned a fantastic amount and am confident in my role, I believe having the opportunity to work with different clinicians is vital as you pick up different tips and skills as well as learning how each clinician does thing differently.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
4/5
the 10 week initial training was brilliant, lots of fun and full of practical exercises. I found the knowledge task fun but I struggled with the logbook and could have done with the support groups which are now in place.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
4/5
Team leaders are always great to talk with with any issues and you get to know colleagues and who you can ask for help.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
3/5
I don't recall much input other than the 5 ASW days throughout the 13 month apprenticeship, my team leader asked me to catch up now and then, our cohort kept in touch which definately helped.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
4/5
N/A
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
4/5
There are CPD events and sports and social to get involved in but its better to work with different colleagues and get to know people as opportunities come up through them.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend Yorkshire Ambulance Service to a friend?
Yes
Why?
I struggled for years to get an apprenticeship, and although initialy difficult to settle in I like my role and where i work now, I am grateful for YAS for employing me and offering progression.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Yorkshire Ambulance Service?
Unless you have prior knowledge of healthcare you may find it hard at first, multiple times I have wanted to leave out of frustration, but I am glad I've stayed as I enjoy coming to work.
Talk with your team leader about working with multiple clinicians as being crewed with one I don't believe is good, different people give you totally different outlooks on the job and manage patients differently.
