Overview of the Role

Overall, how would you describe your experience at Mott MacDonald?
Lovely company that places a lot of attention on wellbeing and professional development. I would recommend working here to anyone interested in the field.
What are the main responsibilities of the role and which elements of the role do you enjoy the most?
Communications planning and events planning.
To what extent does your role give you the opportunity to contribute meaningfully and feel valued by your team?
4/5
The only thing stopping me giving a 5 is because its a very big company and so sometimes you have to be the loudest in order to get noticed. However, there are plenty of opportunities to get involved in all sorts of initiatives.
How does your compensation package - including perks & benefits - fairly remunerate you for the work you do?
4/5
Bonuses for all in the company once per year (based on salary) and a package of benefits which you can opt into e.g cycle to work scheme, healthcare, buy/sell annual leave
How well do you feel the role is preparing you for your future career?
4/5
Very good for professional development, less so through the external careers development partner, and more so through the company's internal policies and offers for graduates. A very good culture for pushing young professionals into new opportunities and networks.
How would you rate the extent to which you were developing new or existing skills through formal training and your day-to-day role?
4/5
Line manager and project manager reviews means there is an open dialogue for chatting about training and skills developments. The day to day role involves exposures to new people and situations which often pushes you out comfort zones (with supportive teams offering as a safety net). There is plenty of opportunity for growth and putting yourself forward for new opportunities.

Experience & Company Culture

How is the support you receive?
4/5
Buddy's assigned to you on the first day. Line managers are the main source of support professionally and in terms of wellbeing. There is a HR portal for all concerns on policies and raising issues. Good culture of wellbeing - its openly discussed.
How is your work-life balance?
5/5
There societies and committees which support you to engage with extra-curricular activities. An annual sports day and early careers network which often puts on events for new starters. There is hardly any expectation for you to work overtime and, if you do, a conversation with line managers and project managers is always open for TOIL.
What is the organisational culture, values and general atmosphere like?
5/5
Great for wellbeing. From conversations and research with other companies, I think Mott MacDonald is standout for this. Culture is good for graduates as there is a support network and outlets.
How would you rate Mott MacDonald initiatives when it comes to equality, diversity, inclusion and accessibility?
3/5
A few advancing networks and webinars. I think it is ok, they could do more as a company. However, usually this is department dependant and there are champions in each office as contacts and conduits for further information.
How would you rate Mott MacDonald CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) initiatives?
5/5
For some divisions this is exceptional. The model for volunteering and donating to charity partners is under review but there is opportunity for colleagues to apply for funding to take a day or more off to donate to a charity initiative. Additionally, there are schemes run by the company departments where people can put their technical expertise to good use through helping charities in a high impact basis.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend Mott MacDonald to a friend?
Yes
Why?
Its supportive and a big network so many opportunities.
How well did the role match your expectations based on the recruitment process?
3/5
The first project I was put on was not in project management and was more of an administrative role. This proved to be a little bit disappointing initially, however, I gained a deep knowledge in a subject matter that is important to the department I work in (social infrastructure), and therefore it opened up a lot of doors for me later on.
When considering the recruitment & onboarding process, have you any specific tips or advice you would give to others applying to Mott MacDonald?
Really get to know your department and ask lots of questions. Mott MacDonald is a really open place to work and the majority of people are willing to help graduates in pursuing passions. Don't be scared to ask questions because its likely that everyone will be happy to help where they can.
