Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

Managing the administration of parking regulations, processing parking tickets, responding to public enquiries, logging data correctly, reviewing appeals for parking tickets, collaborating with enforcement teams, processing parking permits whether residential, business or visitor, responding to phone calls, meeting with team members to discuss updates
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

The apprentice has allowed me to gain hands on learning, applying and developing my skills straight away, it has allowed me to acknowledge a clear career progression and gaining experience and formal qualifications at the same time, I have had strong support structures in help to aid my learning and it's been a rewarding experience

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

I have built upon my time management skills in order to meet deadlines effectively, gaining proficiency when managing calendars and coordinating multiple tasks simultaneously, the ability to communicate clearly and professionally whether on the phone, via email or in person, gaining experience in maintaining both physical and digital filing systems

It is structured with a clear balance of work experience and learning, on the job I am able to learn practical skills and applying these to a real world situation, I am able to gain feedback on my work and been guided through the process, I have structured learning and assignments to complete
How much support do you receive from your employer?

I receive support from my employer through regular check ins, my progress is reviewed during a one to one to make sure I am meeting expectations and staying on track, I am able to reflect on my experiences and set goals looking to the future within my two year apprenticeship
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

I receive lots of support from my training provider during my admin apprenticeship as my assignments allow me to put my learning into account, I can use what I have learnt in the daily tasks that I do at work the following day and gain knowledge from my peers alongside me
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

Through gaining the formal qualification I am able to show that I have learnt the necessary skills and knowledge going forward in my role, I will have to build a portfolio of work showing everything that I have learnt, alongside any additional training and workshops which are put on for my benefit
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

As wakefield council is a large organisation there are a range of things which I can benefit from, wellness initiatives, as I work on a computer through the display screen initative I am able to access eye tests, there are training days which I can attend which will further develop my performance

I would recommend people to come and work at wakefield council due to its positive work culture, allowing you to be surrounded by a supportive and friendly environment, there is flexibility within the company which shows they value a work life balance, there is lots of career growth prospects in different departments
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Wakefield Council?
My top tips would be to read the job description and person specification so you can demonstrate which skills are transferrable, it is important to understand wakefield's three core values which are at the heart of everything they do and the goals for the district which you would be working within should you be successful
