Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
5/5
Day to day role on a client project involves daily-standups, having a look at the backlog of work that needs testing and carrying out / performing the relevant tests. A large part of the role also involves constant communication, whether that be with project managers, test leads or software developers from the software supplier's side.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
3/5
I think the programme is enjoyable to an extent. Depending on the part of the business that you end up in, your experience can differ quite a bit from your peers and colleagues who joined at the same time. Enjoyment entirely depends on the project that you get placed on, the job role you are selected for, the area of the business you find yourself in and the nature of people that you work with. I would say I have enjoyed it to a large degree, but some aspects have seemed better in other areas of the business. Work-life balance is also awful at times.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
4/5
I would say that I have definitely developed new and existing skills. At the beginning of my job, I was a complete beginner and knew nothing about the testing or Information Technology landscape as a whole. I have become a lot more knowledgeable, picking up useful soft and consulting skills, as well as technology specific ones.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
3/5
The course is well structured in the sense that we know when we started, and therefore know when we finish. Some of the in-betweens can seem a little un-organised at times, but this is usually the fault of the course provider and not the employer. An example of this would be where dates and timetables are not provided far enough in advance - something that is quite important in the corporate world.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
3/5
I have regular catchups with my people manager every 2-3 weeks. If I were to have any issues this is a forum in which I could share such things, however, I am also able to reach them outside of this as well. We are given an allocation of study days per year for exams, on-campus days and coursework - this is truly a lifesaver. Other than that, we are mainly left to our own devices and at times, the demands of study and work are not fully appreciated.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
4/5
Generally speaking, I do not require or need support from my training provider when it comes to working towards my qualifications. In instances where I require clarification or need questions answered on a piece of work, the training provider is, generally speaking, quite good at providing the support needed. This of course is staff dependent, but on the whole they are quite good.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
2/5
In all honesty, I find that there is little correlation between my training qualification and the job role that I am working towards. At times, I find that there are overlaps, or am able to comprehend or understand the general IT landscape to a greater intellectual level, but generally speaking it doesn't.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
1/5
There are some activities that I am involved in with my work, but I try to limit this due to the already demanding time commitments. A criticism that I have of this is that engaging in 'internal' activities is included as part of our performance, meaning that if we do not do this, we get negatively penalised. As a result of this, many individuals are engaged in internal networks or events, that in my opinion, offer little to no valuable to the organisation, other than boosting perceived engagement. I also feel that it's unfair to demand us to be measured against this in our performance, when work-life balance is already a challenge.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend Capgemini to a friend?
Yes
Why?
No company is perfect by any means. Capgemini, however, is still a great employer. Capgemini is massive on recognition achievements, ethical culture, employee wellbeing and support. One aspect that I am quite keen about Capgemini is that they offer opportunities for individuals to move around the organisation - 'Get the future you want'.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Capgemini?
I would advise you to be yourself - don't put on a fake or corporate personality. Capgemini evaluates potential hires based on who they are, their personality and of course their qualifications and skills. Focus on engaging in and completing activities that help build you up to be a more 'well rounded' individual.
