Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
Digital Asset and Endpoint specialist. I look after multi-client Endpoints and protect them from malware, ransomware etc. I use EDR, XDR and other tooling solutions to combat threat actors and investigate any alerts which come in. I also do threating hunting as well which involves researching recent threats and then writing playbooks/hunts to look for similar occurrences within my clients.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
I enjoy the job and enthusiastic about gaining first hand experience. Capgemini have been really supportive throughout my first year.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
I have learnt many new skills. I started Cyber Security knowing only what I have researched myself at home before hand so most of the job is new to me and always learning. This includes the tools which are used and how we can use them most effectively. What to look out for when it comes to malware, ransomware and phishing. Every day is different which means I am always learning which is very important within this rapidly evolving industry.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
3/5
Me and one other apprentice were one of the first to do this specific program therefore its still being mapped out. I was lead to believe that I would be changing roles every 6 months or so however I think that is no longer the case as I am working well on Endpoint Security.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
I receive an incredible amount of support. Most teams are quite inter-linked so whenever I have a question regarding something even when not related to endpoint, other teams are also there to help. Managers are also supportive and give feedback regularly on my progress which allows me to adapt.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
5/5
The help was there if needed and I was always able to reach out to my skills coach [This section of the comment has been removed by a member of the Higherin Team because it did not meet our site terms and conditions], whenever I was unsure on something. I never had to wait more than 24 hours when I asked for a meeting with my skills coach to voice my concerns which made me feel like I was continually supported.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
3/5
The Cyber Security SCQF level 8 course which was provided by QA had modules that went really in depth. Some what so that it was pointed out that maybe it went too much into detail when it wasn't really necessary. I was told that the course was more or less copy and pasted from the graduate program in England which made sense as some of the tasks weren't really relevant or just couldn't be done due to security reasons. I feel like I definitely learned more on the job rather than the actual learning material as majority of it was specifically tailored to my job role.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
4/5
We have monthly social activities. Being such a large company the staff are looked after and host sessions online and in person throughout the offices in the U.K. Our office hosts catchup events for apprentices so we can network which one another and talk about how our apprenticeship journey is going.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend Capgemini to a friend?
Yes
Why?
Capgemini is a company where you can start from the lower end of the spectrum and work your way up. You can choose your own path which you want to take. They have great apprenticeship programs where you can learn on the job which is great for anyone thinking about a specific role within the IT industry.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Capgemini?
If you don't know much about the particular role this is OK. I joined Capgemini hoping to get into Cyber Security. I worked on the service desk and didn't really know what the processes fully entailed but there we knowledge base supports and managers which provided help when you came to a roadblock. After continuously applying for Cyber roles, the apprenticeship program came up which I managed to secure a spot within Security. I went into the role of Endpoint Security which I did not know even existed or what it was. I learnt quickly with the help of much support and now can do most tasks independently even when no day is the same.
