Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
5/5
I'm an Oracle Applications Consultant which within the Procurement and Purchasing Modules. I work within a business unit called ADM (applications development and maintenance) which means I deal with the front end issues clients are facing on their applications and act as a bridge between the Client and developer/technical end. This means I'm responsible for being a key source of communication between the client and my own team to escalate issues to the developers should the issue be technical to solve. I've worked on 2 government accounts and assist clients with their functional issues. I have to balance my time between 2 accounts/projects and it's very rewarding as sometimes things can become extremely urgent and challenging. Daily tasks include, taking in new tickets the come in the morning, updating the team and triaging tickets to the rest of the team, morning daily stand ups and during the day creating documentation for clients, replicating their issues and working with developers to debug errors.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
I absolutely enjoy this programme as it allows me to continue on my education whilst applying it in real world setting. The best thing about it is that the programme is tailored to my job role as I am a consultant in Tech and my pathway in University at Sheffield Hallam is IT consulting. The mix of practical and theoretical study makes everything about the programme much more worthwhile and engaging. You get to earn whilst you learn, learn from seniors in the workplace and develop both technical, soft and academic skills.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
This apprenticeship is absolutely rewarding as it's my first job after completing college and I didn't have much work experience prior to this. I have picked up on a range of soft skills such including emotional intelligence when dealing with various clients and people on the team. The Company gives us extra training on how to deal with difficult clients, how to communicate well and gaining confidence when presenting and public speaking. Other transferrable skills include teamwork, collaboration, and professionalism. Industry specific skills I have learned has been is using Oracle and Cloud products, and products like JIRA, getting involved in regression & confidence testing.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
5/5
The programme is well structured as there's a clear balance between University learning and working on the job. We get a TBC timetable for the year which we can forecast our study days into which means we can plan ahead in terms of who can look after projects whilst we are on campus. We have a strong support system, we get allocated skills coaches from university who review our career plans alongside our managers from work. The programme is super flexible with commitments, if i have a heavy work loaded day, the programme appreciates this and allows us to get back to work without blocking our whole week with webinars.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
The employer is just as supportive as the university. They allow for us to have mentors, people manager, a manager and a programme lead. Should we have any concerns we all know who to come to first and they provide the support we need. I personally struggled when i first started university as i had never coded before so i felt as if i was falling behind. My employer checked up on me and aided me with support, gave me a mentor to work alongside with and thankfully I passed since I was able to learn with a great mentor!
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
5/5
The programme is structured in a way where we have monthly calls with our skills coach (training provider) and we can talk about my achievements and weaknesses and where i want to go next in my career. They help support this as they note it down and give us tips along with consulting it to our managers.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
5/5
They not only teach us industry specific skills but we also have tailored modules that link with our job role. They ensure we are picking up on professional development in the work place and we have a set of skills we can chose from to work on which include soft and technical skills such as how to consult effectively within teams and so on.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
5/5
There are so many extra curricular activities to get involved in the list is endless at Capgemini! I'm proud to say I'm part of the Race and Equality Network where we celebrate diversity and inclusion of different religions and groups such as Muslims@Capgemini community eg: hosting Eid events or lunch and learns. I'm also now part of a woman's sports team from Capgemini in Netball where every Wednesdays after work we get together for a power league game. Other activities i host are monthly coffee break catch ups in the office and socials such as bowling, cricket, roller skating, etc. It's a great way to get involved in initiatives as well as being able to network with people.
