Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
Identify, control, verify and audit the delivery of software configuration items to live environments. Governing the movement of all artefacts through the end-to-end software lifecycle and reporting on where each artefact is in the lifecycle. Oversee and facilitate code deliveries and support delivery groups through CM tooling.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
4/5
Having responsibilities alongside completing my degree has given me invaluable experience, knowledge and skills. I have enjoyed working alongside a variety of professionals from all levels and backgrounds, building relationships and networks. I have enjoyed my university experience, especially the on-campus days where I got to immerse in student life.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
I have developed problem solving skills and the ability to handle difficult or unexpected situations. Developed as a subject matter expert and acted as a CM consultant. Worked in a team, building on communication and active team player skills. Developed work management skills- alongside my degree and several projects.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
3/5
When I first joined my apprenticeship my programme was 4.5 years, however, it was shortly reduced to 3.5 years, which I believe is a better timescale. However there was then confusion on the amount of OTJT was required. There are no set study leave days, 22 days allocated.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
4/5
I was entitled to 22 study leave days, which I was able to take whenever I felt was necessary, which was flexible. My manager recognised my study leave time was separate to my working hours, and supported me in some of my assignments and wider portfolio work. And there is an EET community that always offers support.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
4/5
My skills coach was an important part of my university experience. They regularly checked-in on myself and my manager, supported me through my portfolio work and EPA. Feedback from the module leaders were sometimes limited, sometimes limited responses through emails. However some module leaders were incredibly supportive and offered 1-2-1s.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
4/5
My final year project has helped me perform better in my role through applying practical skills to my own project. It helped build confidence, communication and project management skills, which are applicable to my role. Other modules such as training and coaching has also played a part in my current role.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
4/5
There are many giving back opportunities and social events at Capgemini. I have been involved in The Princes Trust raising money and facilitating a CV workshop; school careers talk; and Lego league. I have also been involved in after work social events with the EET community and regularly join the EET office days. However, I’m not aware of any sport teams, although there is a gym!

They are true to their core values such as trust, fun and freedom. There are many ways in the offices to step away from work, as they encourage physical and mental well-being.
