Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

I maintain the 3D printers in the lab, print things occasionally and sometimes help out with teaching students.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

I enjoy it a lot. I’m happy that I am able to do what I do for a hobby as a job. It sometimes challenges me too as I have never encountered some problems but I can work to fix them then use that knowledge elsewhere in my hobby/job.
Skills Development
Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

I have learnt how to build some of the printers, learnt how to build on my communication skills, learned how to use CAD software as well as learning how to communicate my skills in a way that people understand.

Very well structured. I have clear yet flexible work hours.
How much support do you receive from your employer?

I receive any support I need. I can ask for help at any time and get linked to someone else if whoever I asked can’t help at that time.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

I receive help if and when needed. They are always walking about to help when it’s needed and will come over to offer advice at times.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

With my qualification, I feel that I can approach problems from different angles to find the best solution. This is because with machining, sometimes you have to do things differently to the way you want to or first think you can do things.

Would you recommend University of Oxford to a friend?
Yes
Why?
It’s a very nice working environment, it’s a very welcoming workplace. There’s lots of support if you need it as well as lots of opportunities to get involved in. It’s a lovely city to work in and is very convenient to get to if you live in a nearby village. It’s very good pension wise if you are concerned about that.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to University of Oxford?
Don’t think that you won’t get in because it’s a very prestigious university. The working side of it is very different and there’s always a job role for you.
