Register Your Interest - Credit Assessment Placement

Primary Purpose of the Job

Reporting to a Credit Assessment Team Manager the key responsibility for our Credit Assessment Advisors is to deliver a best in class underwriting service to our retail partners for all brands within the whole Volkswagen Group. This is achieved by processing applications for new and used vehicles for both retail & corporate customers.

Main Responsibilities

  • A Credit Assessment Advisor will have the ability to underwrite all customer types and score bands within defined procedural guidelines.
  • Ensuring all Underwriting department Service Level Agreements are fully met as a minimum
  • Maintaining an acceptable level of bad debt by Underwriting each proposal and making decisions in line with the VWFS risk appetite.
  • Receive and professionally handle all calls made into the Underwriting department by the retail network
  • Check & verify all proofs of identification received by customers via the retailer network,
  • Asses customer documentation to adequately and accurately establish affordability for the loan
  • Investigating referrals flagged by a fraud officer in line with procedure
  • Stakeholder engagement and management of the retailer network, Sales teams and other internal departments
  • Receiving and resolving retailer queries in line with procedure
  • Providing support to the New Business Operations team
  • Ensuring key controls are followed in order to protect the interests of the company
  • Identifying opportunities for improvement and support key initiatives and projects championed by the New Business Leadership team

Principal Contacts / Working Relationships

Principal contacts for the Underwriting team are:

  • The Specialist Lending Unit – Fraud Officers
  • The Retailer network – Business Manager / Sales Executives
  • Sales Teams – Business Development Managers & Sales Operations team
  • Customer Operations – Collections department / Retail Customer Services
  • Product Development – Product Development Executive

Decision Making Scope

Governed by the Credit Assessment Advisors approved mandated authority, they will assess and apply a decision on retail and corporate financial lending applications based on set criteria and procedures in line with risk appetite.

This would incorporate all retail and corporate vehicle finance applications across all VWG brands and all customer legal entity types.

Key Challenges

Stakeholder management to achieve best outcome for both the customer and the company with the retailer network where an application has been declined and the decision has been appealed.

Ability to assess financial accounting information.

In this fast paced environment the ability to multi-task and adapt to changing priorities is essential.

Education, Training and Experience

All of the below is desired but not essential to role as we understand the Undergraduates capacity to gain experience in these areas is limited.

  • Previous customer service, call centre or financial services experience
  • Previous Underwriting experience, ideally in the automotive sector
  • Detailed understanding of the Data Protection Act and Consumer Credit Act.
  • Awareness of Vulnerable Customer regulations
  • Awareness of Treating customer fairly and Financial Conduct Authority regulation
  • Knowledge and understanding of how to review and interpret financial accounting information
  • Full PC literacy with the ability to learn new systems/applications
  • Excellent verbal and written communication capabilities
  • A minimum of four GCSE, grade C and above including Maths and English

  • Ability to manage high volume of task and meet deadlines
  • Ability to understand and interpret financial information
