Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

I support large multi academy trusts with curriculum planning, qualification and resource support, training and events, and results analysis for KS3, KS4, and KS5. I also have expertise in primary curriculum support from reception to year 6. My role is to help senior leaders in education keep up to date with the changing world of education and drive innovation with Pearson's products and services. I work with a diverse range of stakeholders, to deliver tailored solutions that meet their needs and goals.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

The programme was certainly a challenge, studying remotely can be difficult at times. However, study at my own pace and in a time to suit me did fit my needs. Networking with fellow students is more difficult online, I tried to make connections when I was on online tutorials, which really helped me develop a support network, which I needed, quite often just for morale support.

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

New skills have been built upon and developed new skills. Firstly, my knowledge of the wider business has increased my confidence and my ability to support customers and colleagues. I am now able to demonstrate clear proactive planning of activities aimed to drive revenue, reporting and understanding data has increased.
I now understand by using market intelligence provided by the sales/product/marketing teams and from their own research/data analysis and can support better outcomes.
In Onecrm, a proactive approach is taken to record activities, ensuring opportunities and notes are consistently updated at every stage.

Structure and Support
How well organised/structured is your programme?

The programme with the OU could have been more organised, some tutors are not fully experienced in the programme and miss the connection between work, study and evidence. I think the OU have looked at this in more detail now and hopefully the experience will have improved. The last OU tutor I had, towards the end of my studies was brilliant, but there are inconsistencies in the tutor support experience.
How much support do you receive from your employer?

From a work point of view, the programme is very well organised, with support to ensure study time etc is taken. The apprentice team at Pearson fully understand the support needed, they offer to support to ensure your manager understands the importance of study time, they provide training for managers and others involved in supporting students. Everyone is allocated at least two internal mentors.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

The support was patchy at times, in hindsight, I now understand the support I should of had, I am using this knowledge to support new students on the programme, at my workplace. The are inconsistences in the level of support from OU tutors, some go above and beyond, others don't seem interested. You need to be self motivated and prepared to seek support (which can be a challenge).
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

I am much more confident in my role, my studies provided me with the knowledge to understand the wider business, and has already led to a promotion. The programme gave me the confidence to ask for support, not only with my studies, but with my job role too. This has expanded my network, which is a true bonus when working for such a large corporate business.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

As part of the programme, when studying and following studies there is an opportunity to become an Apprentice Ambassador, this is a formal post, with training and support. I took the opportunity to become an Ambassador, which I really enjoy, I can support potential and existing students, this includes social events (mainly in work time) which helps to develop the network, so we can continue to support each other and promote the Apprenticeship programme at Pearson.

Why?
There is a supportive culture at Pearson - especially with the Apprenticeship Programme, which offers so many different courses and training providers. Pearson are inclusive and you are made to feel comfortable, valued and welcome, whatever your role or status. I have worked for Pearson for 12 years, there are many benefits, the apprenticeship programme and the support offered is a huge benefit.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Pearson?
Find more out about this global company, there are so many job roles, for all levels of applicants. Find some people on LinkedIn who already work here and reach out to them, I am sure they would be more than happy to talk to you about their experience. Like many large companies the application process can be long, but don't be afraid to ask questions when you are waiting for a reply, once you have applied.
