Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
Managing a team to create computer based exams for a range of clients, working with development teams to develop new software tools, some scripting for data conversion and problem solving. Acting as a stakeholder on existing software tools. Using software tools to create computer based exams. Ensuring exams are built to specifications.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
4/5
I have enjoyed it a lot , though challenging. The materials for the majority of my modules are very interesting and well delivered. I enjoy the challenge and sense of achievement when getting a good mark on an assessment. I enjoy broadening my knowledge and feeling like i am learning useful skills.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
4/5
Yes both, lots of good technology and systems skills. I have learnt skills in python coding, java, react applications, HTML and CSS skills and basic API coding for web services and some PHP. I have been exposed to lots of different technologies at an entry - intermediate level, as well as project management.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
4/5
very structured every week there is guidance on what you should be doing, and you can see ahead as well to what is coming up, although you can complete the study/work at your own pace. You can also see what will be in the assessment ahead of time to prepare.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
My employer is very supportive and has always been willing to give me the support to complete my work and to use my skills in the workplace, as well as checking in on my well being. When I needed to take a break my employer was extremely supportive as well.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
4/5
Lots of support there is the course tutor and a practice tutor but also there is a student support team, who i have found to be very helpful when needed both on the phone and on email , and they also contact you to check in occasionly even when there are no issues.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
4/5
My qualificiation has helped me perform better in my role by giving me additional skills and knowledge that are pertinent to my role and expanding my knowledge beyond the tools and tech that we use in my organisation or department currently. It has also made me more confident dealing with tech teams.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
3/5
There are oocasional social activities such going for a meal or a lunch or occasional nights out for example going to a karaoke bar - these are organised by the employees and not the company. Everyone in my office works from home most of the time so i think there is less appetite for that.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend Pearson to a friend?
Yes
Why?
Pearson is a very big company with lots of opportunities. The company does in general have very progressive values and is a welcoming place to work. The benefits are very good, and employees are definitely encouraged to keep learning and developing their knowledge and skills. I find it a good place to work.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Pearson?
Pearson is changing quite a lot and trying to embrace AI so it will probably be an advantage if you are able to talk about some benefits of AI, also learn about assessments and learning for background. Once you work at Pearson you may also hear about a different business area that would be interested in moving to. .
