Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
5/5
In my role, I handle data requests raised by stakeholders from across the business. I will first start off by liaising with the stakeholder to make sure I understand their needs, then I will begin to query our database to extract the necessary data. I may then build a dashboard with some summary stats/visuals or send off the raw data, depending on their requirements.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
I really enjoy my programme as I am learning practical skills which are useful in my day to day role. I’m constantly learning from experts, improving my coding and analytical skills, and contributing to exciting projects. I find it’s a perfect blend of challenge, innovation, and career growth.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
I have learned machine learning methods in Python to create models to help increase stakeholder value. Up until now, the methods I've explored in particular during the apprenticeship are Linear Regressions, Logistic Regressions and Time Series. I have learnt methods to fine tune the model and how to measure the models accuracy.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
5/5
The programme is very well organised and structure. We have around 10 modules, each of which last 1 to 2 months. We have around 4 live sessions per module each of which will have pre readings relating to them. During the pre readings and live sessions, we cover both theoretical and technical skills.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
Upon beginning my apprenticeship I attended a Pearson Programme Induction and networked with other apprentices within the company. I work closely with my manager and my apprenticeship mentor within Pearson, having daily check ins to see how I am progressing and any problems I may be having. I can also reach out to Pearson's Apprenticeship ambassadors whenever I am facing problems during my programme.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
5/5
During my programme, I have regular check ins with my Career Success Coach to make sure I am staying on track and help resolve any problems I may be having for instance with workload or safeguarding issues. I also have regular check ins with my data mentor with whom I discuss my projects and any difficulties I may have understanding topics.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
5/5
My qualification has given me new ideas of how to approach tasks in my day to day. I am beginning to consider different errors that may arise from models and which types of error will have more or less effects on the result. This ensures that the output will be the most suitable the challenge at hand
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
5/5
At Pearson we have a Gen Z network where employees can network with other Gen Z employees. We also have a fortnightly 5 a side football session where employees across all divisions can participate and connect with other employees they may not otherwise have had an opportunity to. In my team, we also have team socials every couple months.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend Pearson to a friend?
Yes
Why?
In my experience of working at Pearson, I have been given countless opportunities to learn and grow to progress in my career. With the company operating in the Education industry, the learning opportunities are a key benefit and the Early Careers team support employees to continue developing and progressing in their careers.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Pearson?
I would urge others to lean into the education aspect of the company and be open to learning and developing as due to the size of the company, the learning will never really end. Be curious and ask lots of questions to continue growing both personally and professionally. Take advantage of the expertise around you, seek feedback regularly, and don’t be afraid to step outside your comfort zone.
