Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
as an apprentice BIM Technician my role consists of doing QA checks on drawings, setting up and tagging drawings as well as some coordination of services. In my role we are required to talk to site engineers and work collaboratively with everyone on the project to ensure a smooth product delivery.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
4/5
one of the best things about the team i work with are how supportive they have been in my professional development. This has helped my thrive in my job role as well as make some genuine friends in the business. Obviously everyone has good days and bad days but my overall experience at NGB has been very positive and i would recommend an apprenticeship to anyone looking to have a good career in engineering.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
4/5
Before i worked at NGB I worked in a Welding and fabrication company for over a year which gave me an insight into certain aspects of the engineering world. However in the last two and a half years my knowledge in building services has expanded ten fold. I have leant so much about MEP services, how to operate in a professional environment and how to conduct myself, the standards used in the engineering industry and much more.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
3/5
NGB have a very good structure in place to help apprentices thrive in the company however with leeds college of building i believe some improvements could be made. for example when i was a college it felt like it wasnt very role specific which means we didnt leant a lot from college on how to improve at my job.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
Here at NGB I have had more support than you could ever ask for when it comes to learning the job and being pushed to be your best self. Our ADPs (Apprentice Development Partners) are determined to help you with any issues or concerns you may have whether its a personal issue or a work issue. When i first started i was assigned a mentor who spent a lot of time with me to ensure that by the time my apprenticeship ended i knew all i needed to know do qualify.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
2/5
with Leeds college of building you had a lot of support options while you was physically at college however it felt like to me that when you finished your block there was no contact and it was very hard to get in touch if you had any queries. Also, NGB had requested that LCB have regular performance reviews and in the two years i was there i cant remember having one.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
2/5
my time at LCB gave me an insight into the overall workings on the construction industry however it wasnt very role specific. I believe i could do my job to the same standard from everything i have learnt at work if i didnt go to college. it has felt like college was more of paper proof that i can do my job rather than actually teaching my about my role
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
5/5
at NGB we have company wide summer parties and Christmas parties which allow you to build a better connection with the people you work with. As well as this every few months our departments organise activities for team building that are fun. We also have apprentice development days which lets all apprentices get together and catch up as well as develop our professional wellbeing. As apprentices we have also organised sponsored charity events.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend NG Bailey to a friend?
Yes
Why?
NGB is a brilliant company for anyone who wants to excel in an area of engineering that they are interested in and will support you in anyway you like. I believe that with NGB you will get out as much as you put in and you can go as far as you want if your willing to do the work.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to NG Bailey?
the process isnt easy and you will have to work hard however everything you need to progress is here and you will be supported.
