Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

i arrive and organise the glasses to be collected. throughout the day within the store we all alternate between frame fitting peoples glasses, pre screening patients before they see the optomologists, and helping customers select their glasses and ordering them in.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

i really enjoy my programme, i think that it is a job that keeps you busy and it is nice that the role comes with many different job role tasks as that keeps it interesting. i enjoy helping the customers on their glassess journey. however for the amount of work the job involves i think its underpaid.
Skills Development
Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

i have learnt all about different lenses and when they may be suitable, ordering glasses, how to fit glasses, how to operate optcial machinery like focimeteres.
Structure and Support
How well organised/structured is your programme?

i think its really well organised. my apprenticeship leader is amazing and makes everything im expected to do very well organised and clear and adaptable to my needs. the team in store have been very supportive and patient and amazing at teaching me how to do things. i think it would be more helpful to have a more organise time slot for my learning.
How much support do you receive from your employer?

exceptional help. has made me feel comfortable, confident, and welcomed. theyve been very patient and informative
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

my training provider is amazing she has made everything that i need to get done very well orgnaised and clear by setting deadlined tasks from me in order of priority. she also has been very informative and on the bull with organising meetings to speak to me about my course and checking in on my progress and then organising any additional support i need.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

very well, the apprenticeship has been amazing at expanding my knowledge. i enjoy that there is both practical learning and then good resources for online learning through i learns
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

not as far as im aware of but perhaps thats as im still fairly new. although we do have a monthly staff meeting fro extra training

Why?
i think its provided excellent opportunity to help myself develop a interesting career that i already really enjoy. from this apprentichip there is great follow on opportunities such as university courses which may help me specialise. for example i may want to become a dispensing optician if i enjoy that. the apprenticeship allows you to get a taste of many different aspects of working in a opticians.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Specsavers?
i would advise to be prepared for hard work and dedication but the job role is worth it and rewarding
