Private British optical retail chain Specsavers Optical group Ltd was founded in 1984 and specialised in glasses, contact lenses and hearing aids. They have the largest single market share of the UK market (42%). Specsavers was launched in 1984 by husband and wife Doug and Mary Perkins in 2011/12 had a revenue of £1.7 billion, 1,390 stores and 26,000 employees.

Spectators operates most of their stores under a 'Joint Venture Partnership'. This is a partnership between an Optometry Director and a Retail Director.

Specsavers has 1,648 branches in United Kingdom, Guernsey, Jersey, the Netherlands, Spain, Australia, Ireland, Norway, Sweden, Finland, Denmark, and New Zealand.
