Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

5/5
I am an optical assistant apprentice, my job is to provide excellent customer service and ensure everyone gets what they need from us. I book/cancel appointments, I arrive people into store and confirm information, I complete diagnostics and fields tests, I talk patients through all processes, I fill out triage forms and put EOS patients onto Opera, I order contact lenses, I sort through mail delivered to us, I give customers advice over the phone, I help the clinic run as best it can. I try to do all of this with a positive attitude to make sure customers are happy when leaving us.

To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

5/5
I really enjoy my role here at Specsavers, there's more to the job than people expect. I've learned a lot more about types of glasses and contact lenses, different kinds of appointments, eye conditions and referrals, treatments, help leaflets for patients, all while gaining experience and moving forward in my role. I have made great friends that have helped me along the way if I needed it, and I truly feel happy at work whilst doing my job.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

5/5
I was always a socially anxious person and hated speaking to the public, but this job role helped me grow out of that and encouraged me to speak to people without feeling nervous and unwell. It helped me realise that it wasn't as scary as I thought. I've also developed my resilience skills, as we have to work quickly and effectively to help the clinic run smoothly.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?

5/5
I would say it's well organised, I know what my role is and what I have to do to fulfil it. It's very clear what needs to be done by each person each day to run an effective clinic.

How much support do you receive from your employer?

5/5
I receive support from my managers and supervisors. They always answer my questions and provide constructive criticism, but they also praise my hard work.

How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

5/5
I receive good support from my providers in terms of my apprenticeship qualifications, they try to give me time each week to complete my own learning.

How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

5/5
My qualification helps me learn a lot more about my job through things like iLearn. It helps me in my role to be more knowledgeable about our products, and it helps me answer customer's questions.

Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

1/5
Not that I'm aware of
