Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

5/5
As an Optical Assistant apprentice, my role involves supporting the day‑to‑day running of the store and helping customers with their optical needs. On a typical day, I greet customers, book appointments, carry out pre‑screening tests, and guide people through their eyewear choices. I help with frame styling, lens advice, and making sure customers understand their options.
I also support the clinical team by preparing test rooms, maintaining equipment, and ensuring smooth patient flow. Alongside this, I handle general admin tasks, update records, and help keep the shop floor organised. My apprenticeship training fits into my daily work, helping me build confidence and develop the skills needed to deliver great customer care.

I really enjoy my apprenticeship programme. The mix of learning and hands‑on experience keeps me motivated, and I like seeing my skills improve week by week. The support from my store and the apprenticeship team makes the programme feel positive and manageable, which adds to how much I enjoy it overall.
