Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

5/5
My role includes providing pre-screening for sight tests, discussing lens and glasses options, and recommending products best suited for our customers' vision needs.

To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

5/5
The apprenticeship provided by Specsavers is structured, informative and encourages progression. There are several resources and coaches who provide 1 to 1 training and offer support beyond the apprenticeship.
I have thoroughly enjoyed learning new skills and information based around optics as well as my personal development.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

5/5
My English and Mathematics functional skills have improved drastically during my time on the apprenticeship.
I have also learned a variety of new skills, including those of a customer facing role.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?

5/5
As stated previously, the apprenticeship is well structured with a variety of resources and 1 to 1 training with designated support coaches.
Our in-store teams also provide a variety of support and encourage progression beyond the apprenticeship.

How much support do you receive from your employer?

5/5
The support that is provided by the employer is structured and provides a substantial amount of feedback and reflection to encourage growth and individual development.

How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

5/5
The 1 to 1 coaching sessions give an opportunity to focus on areas that could use development and are always successful in their teaching.
Engagement coaches also provide help and support beyond that of learning to ensure staff feel safe and protected at work during their apprenticeship.

How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

5/5
The qualification solidifies the knowledge and skills learned throughout the apprenticeship journey. This builds confidence and initiative to progress further and provide the best service that you can.

Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

4/5
Specsavers provides a variety of online social groups that promote professional networking and getting involved in social events either remotely or in person.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend Specsavers to a friend?

Yes

Why?

Specsavers provides substantial learning and progression opportunities in a variety of different pathways. Individualism is encouraged and praised through frequent constructive feedback.
The work is also rewarding and fulfilling.

What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Specsavers?

Be open to learning new things and to adaption. My experience in optics is that no one person is the same but it is always rewarding to provide a great experience to them.
