Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.

I am currently completing an Industrial Placement as a Commercial Analyst within NESO's Market Change Delivery (MCD) division. My role involves researching industrial and commercial sectors, electricity suppliers and flexibility markets to help identify opportunities for increased participation in flexibility services. On a day-to-day basis, I carry out market research, analyse industry and company data, produce reports and presentations and share findings with colleagues. I also support supplier mapping and sector research projects, helping build resources that can be used to guide future MCD engagement activities.

Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?

I was given a great level of responsibility during my placement. My manager trusted me to lead two key pieces of work: researching priority industrial and commercial sectors and developing an intelligence database of electricity suppliers. This involved managing my own workload, carrying out independent research, presenting findings to colleagues and producing outputs that will continue to be used by MCD. I was also trusted to represent the team, maintaining communication with external stakeholders and companies and take ownership of progressing discussions.
