Overview of the Role

Overall, how would you describe your experience at National Energy System Operator (NESO)?

I have found working at NESO to be an insightful experience into the energy industry. I came into the graduate scheme with no real background in energy but have been able to learn and experience a lot about the energy network. It has been useful being able to rotate through placements and learn from various professionals to understand the wide scope of roles in the industry.

What are the main responsibilities of the role and which elements of the role do you enjoy the most?

I have been able to take on projects and analyse the best ways to approach problems, really being able to learn and develop skills in real time. I have been given responsibilities ranging from more data analysis, to some more technical documentation review to then also working on project management tools. I have particularly enjoyed the variety of work and being able to apply what I learn to real projects.

How is the support you receive?

3/5
The Buddy System and Talent Coordinators are great to have, with various placements meaning changing team and mangers, they act as a more constant person of contact throughout the scheme. However, on the more administrative side of the graduate scheme, communication and updates can sometimes be a little last minute or unclear.
