Graduate Power Systems Engineer Review

My experience has overall been good. There are plenty of opportunities to get involved with, teams are supportive of the graduate experience, and there is a strong sense of belonging in the organisation.
However, the early careers team sometimes lacks organisation and you often, as a graduate, will need to seek out your own experiences and opportunities. There is a lack of pace in decision making within the early careers team which can lead to difficulties in personal life (such as relocation or career planning).

I have completed two separate roles within the organisation. The first was a great opportunity looking at how we connect new technologies onto the grid; it was a fantastic opportunity to learn about the development stages of generation and supply technologies. The second was a broadening opportunity where I experienced organisational and strategic development which will assist in my future career.

I feel valued by my direct team that I am working with. It sometimes feel like you are overlooked as a graduate to the early careers team and not given enough information or communication required.

Organisational benefits are great such as pension, savings scheme and cycle to work scheme.

Due to personal enthusiasm I believe I have achieved a lot within the role. However, this has only been possible from seeking out opportunities that otherwise would not have been available if left to Early Careers.

Support from HR, my line manage and mentors is fantastic - I feel empowered to work to my full potential. Support from early careers can be lacking and difficult to get ahold of.

Work life balance is fantastic with a range of options for working hybrid or in-person.

The organisation is extremely inclusive, positive, and welcoming. There is a great sense of belonging in the organisation.

From my knowledge, there are fantastic initiatives when it comes to equality, diversity, inclusion and accessibility.

I believe there is the opportunity to develop, learn and grow as a person and employee. You need to be confident and push for opportunities when they arise.

Day-to-day work is as expected and offers a lot. Support from early careers is not as expected based on knowledge before starting.
