Pioneer Work Experience Review

The work experience consisted of sessions led by analysts and interns from different divisions at Rothschild & Co. These divisions consisted of Global Advisory, Wealth and Asset management, Five Arrows, and Redburn. We were guided through what each role in each division entails and through the different career journeys that the people took. In a lot of the sessions we were also introduced to the technicalities involved in each business area, which provided further insight into the projects you would be working on. To apply our knowledge, there was a trading simulation activity and a presentation project which you got to work on in groups.

The potential roles available were explained very clearly through hearing about the different areas that the interns and analysts were put into and also hearing about their career journey, which some of the time involved switching from different sectors. As an overview, we were also provided with an estimated timeline of when you would progress to different roles in the business, which was very insightful and encouraging.

During the group project we had the opportunity to assess the financial and logistical side of a product which helped to develop our analytical skills, which are core when valuating a business. Afterwards, we got to present our ideas which not only gave us the chance to build on our public speaking skills, but also our team work skills through collaborating with our team mates.

The company culture was very authentic and genuine as the people speaking to us were honest about the amount of time and effort it takes to succeed in this career and they were very informative about the amount of support you are open to receive in all different areas, to make you feel supported and included in the community. This provided a very friendly and connected atmosphere.

I thoroughly enjoyed the insight and found it to be a very valuable experience. I particularly enjoyed gaining a deeper understanding of the work carried out at Rothschild & Co and hearing from professionals about their experiences and career paths, whilst also getting the opportunity to connect with the speakers and interns, providing me with a network for any future questions. Overall, it was a very engaging work experience, which definitely helped me build on my professional skills.

My biggest tip would be to connect with the people on the work experience with you and with the people already working at Rothschild & Co through asking as many questions about the career and technicals as you can in order to build a strong relationship with them and a view of what sector you would roughly like to go into. Another big piece of advice would just be to really listen to the speakers and note down anything you would like to research further to build your understanding of how each area works.
