Overall, how would you describe your experience at IBM?
My experience at IBM has been generally positive, the training at the start was thorough and allowed the graduate cohort to get to know each other. Since then we are treated like any other member of the team, but have support at hand for anything thanks to the IBM foundation part of the business. There has been a lot of shifting around in the tech sales part of the business which has been the only real challenge to get used to.
What are the main responsibilities of the role and which elements of the role do you enjoy the most?
I am an AI Engineer working on pilots (ie. POCs or MVPs) that are demoed as part of the pre-sales process. I use mainly IBM technology for the work I do. I am able to own major parts of these pilots, and anything I own I'm also responsible for demoing to the client or seller or any other stakeholder involved. We work in sprints with stand-ups and retros. Each pilot lasts anywhere from 2 weeks to 4 weeks typically, and can be with any client. What I enjoy most is the technical side when I get stuck into engineering or architecting the solution. I also enjoys the demos.
To what extent does your role give you the opportunity to contribute meaningfully and feel valued by your team?

I do feel like graduates are valued equally to all other members of the team, at the same time we are encouraged to reach out for support. I have had key contributions to projects on par with more senior colleagues contributions as we can own whichever work we want to.
How does your compensation package - including perks & benefits - fairly remunerate you for the work you do?

The pay is fair and there is the opportunity to earn more than reference salary based on an incentive scheme in tech sales. The top tier of this incentive scheme has been achievable.
How well do you feel the role is preparing you for your future career?

The involvement in using AI can be applied widely across industries. We already gain exposure to many clients and industries, seeing the work they do and how AI can help.
How would you rate the extent to which you were developing new or existing skills through formal training and your day-to-day role?

As we only use IBM technology, the exposure to other technology is limited. There is access to learning resources such as Udemy which is positive, and many certifications can be obtained for free. Client related skills and soft skills are easy to pick up in this role, as there is a lot of involvement directly with clients and other stakeholders.

How is the support you receive?

The support has been great both from foundation and task managers, as well as buddys. They reply quickly on slack and will be happy to help with almost anything. There are no stupid questions.
How is your work-life balance?

It is pretty great at IBM in tech sales. The holidays are flexible, I have taken up to 3 weeks off with no issue, as long as I give enough notice. The working hours are quite flexible around your life, including medical appointments of course. As long as you get the work done, there is no problem.
What is the organisational culture, values and general atmosphere like?

The culture is great and very positive, although often the office is quite empty on certain days. Remote work is very much welcome which is a positive despite being the reason for this.
How would you rate IBM initiatives when it comes to equality, diversity, inclusion and accessibility?

There are often evenings or other events hosted by different groups and all are welcome to learn about different cultures, often with traditional foods and other activities.
How would you rate IBM CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) initiatives?

They are good in general. There is a charity matching scheme which has many charities available.

Why?
The work life balance is great and the pay is fair. The work is relevant and improves skills adequately. There is opportunity to grow or change role if wanted. The people are very nice!

Be personable over anything in the interviews. They should feel like chatting to a friend if anything.
