Overview of the Role

Overall, how would you describe your experience at IBM?

Very open and supportive throughout the Graduate Program. Value selling workshops to learn the latest updates around IBM Technologies. Beyond my expectations before I had initially joined and elevated my profile within the technology space.

What are the main responsibilities of the role and which elements of the role do you enjoy the most?

I specialise in Db2 for z/OS which is the middleware of the Mainframe. I speak with enterprise customers in regards to updating their data portfolio and lakehouse strategies. As well as finding a solution based on their pain points discussed. I enjoy meeting the clients on site and go through a strategic positioning approach on how to best handle their matter.

To what extent does your role give you the opportunity to contribute meaningfully and feel valued by your team?

5/5
I have managed to organise and host events in IBM York Road and IBM Hursley. As well as built connections outside of my own territory such as EMEA and Americas. Weekly checkup and managers always going out their way to find further opportunities to grown within the business.

How does your compensation package - including perks & benefits - fairly remunerate you for the work you do?

5/5
As a Tech Sales role - comes with targets which at least 70% needs to be achieved. If you exceed the targets you will get into incubators. When you succeed in a deal with products under your account you will receive incentives quarterly.

How well do you feel the role is preparing you for your future career?

5/5
`Very well, as education up to 120 hours a year. As well as having deep dive sessions and demos to get hands on practice with the latest technologies.

How would you rate the extent to which you were developing new or existing skills through formal training and your day-to-day role?

5/5
Excellent, as you are given a SME mentor to work and shadow with for the year before given your own accounts and territory. Through the shadowing you pick up negotiation skills, building connections and learning the customer as well as building the rapport. These all help be prepared for working independently.

Experience & Company Culture

How is the support you receive?

5/5
Top level, very supportive with a Foundation Manager, Task Manager and a Mentor through the Graduate process for 2 years.

How is your work-life balance?

5/5
Very supportive and prioritises health first with the private company benefits.

5/5
Open structure and can speak with anyone without any boundaries in place. 3 days in the office, and 2 days working from home flexibly.

How would you rate IBM initiatives when it comes to equality, diversity, inclusion and accessibility?

5/5
Catering to the needs of each individual very highly

How would you rate IBM CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) initiatives?

4/5
I believe this element requires some improvement in certain areas.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend IBM to a friend?

Yes

Why?

Business trips open doors to meet new clients and external people that will help you grow and build the rapport. The educational workshops that take place over the week, and bringing Worldwide leaders to come speak with the graduates in providing advice and further opportunities.

How well did the role match your expectations based on the recruitment process?

5/5
I previously worked in the Public Sector, by entering the Private Sector I saw a world of difference in terms of the people, culture, challenge, and push they want to get from your skills and academia. It was a very long process to join IBM with 5 different interviews though tested through each stage to see how suitable and which role would best suit me in the long run.

When considering the recruitment & onboarding process, have you any specific tips or advice you would give to others applying to IBM?

I would suggest be yourself and trustworthy. They want to know your personal side and what you will bring to the organisation organically rather than scripting your answers. Sell yourself to the hirers. What you can change or set goals when you potentially apply.
