Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.

During my internship at IBM, I worked as a Full Stack Developer. A typical day would start with a team stand-up where we'd catch up on what everyone was working on, discuss any blockers, and plan our priorities for the day. My work mainly involved creating technical documentation, maintaining and organising reusable website assets, and contributing to a range of development tasks. One project I worked on was creating a Storybook to help make our UI components easier for the team to access and reuse.

Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?

Yes, I was given a good level of responsibility throughout my internship. While I had support from my team when needed, I was trusted to manage my own tasks and contribute to projects independently.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend IBM to a friend?

Yes

What advice would you give to others applying to IBM

My advice to anyone applying to IBM would be to be curious, open to learning, and willing to step outside of your comfort zone. You don't need to know everything from day one, but having a positive attitude and a genuine willingness to learn will help you make the most of the opportunity. It's also important to work collaboratively, as you'll be surrounded by talented people who are happy to share their knowledge and support your development. IBM has a culture where new ideas and innovation are encouraged, so don't be afraid to ask questions, contribute your thoughts, and get involved. The more you engage with the people around you, the more you'll learn and grow.
