Overview of the Role

Overall, how would you describe your experience at IBM?

Very positive experience overall. There is a strong and supportive management team in place for early career hires to supplement your role/team management. There are many progression and development opportunities to those who make the effort.

What are the main responsibilities of the role and which elements of the role do you enjoy the most?

I'm in a sales role, so I very much enjoy the client-facing element of my job - the challenge of identifying new sales opportunities, relationship building with key stakeholders in my customers, and creating a compelling business case for the deal.

To what extent does your role give you the opportunity to contribute meaningfully and feel valued by your team?

5/5
Contributing meaningfully and feeling valued is something I feel particularly capable of doing in my role and there are tangible means to measure this.

How does your compensation package - including perks & benefits - fairly remunerate you for the work you do?

5/5
IBM offers a competitive base salary and benefits package across the board. On top of that, there is signifiant opportunity to grow your earnings through commission earned.

How well do you feel the role is preparing you for your future career?

5/5
I feel like I'm developing a good mix of skills that will help me as my career progresses, both in terms of personal skills and technical knowledge. I could easily see this translating to many other roles and industries if my career were to develop in that way in the future.

How would you rate the extent to which you were developing new or existing skills through formal training and your day-to-day role?

5/5
There's a strong focus on skills development within IBM, that's especially true of early career hires. You go through comprehensive training after onboarding relevant to the role you will do, and you have an additional management team for the first two years who work in lockstep with your day to day manager to shape your experience and provide education.

Experience & Company Culture

How is the support you receive?

5/5
You are given plenty of support, particularly as an early career hire. Not only do you have a second management team for the first two years guiding your experience in addition to your regular manager, but there's also a solid mentoring system in place to learn from more experienced team members.

How is your work-life balance?

5/5
Overall work-life balance is strong. There are times where you're expected to work additional hours but that is the nature of any sales role when you're working against the clock. That hard work tends to be recognised and rewarded and of course you earn commission if that work turns into a signed deal. IBM have a good policy around hybrid working and working hours, you don't feel micromanaged or clock watched and you're trusted to manage your own schedule.

What is the organisational culture, values and general atmosphere like?

5/5
The culture is really strong in my experience. There's a focus on building a positive, welcoming, and team oriented environment. I feel like there's a genuine effort made consistently by first and second line management to make themselves available to you, support your development, and push you to grow.

How would you rate IBM initiatives when it comes to equality, diversity, inclusion and accessibility?

5/5
IBM have many internal communities which support and promote a variety of good causes which are open to all and encourage those to speak up when they notice something that's out of line.

How would you rate IBM CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) initiatives?

5/5
This is not an area I've had a lot of visibility in, but there's a big effort made by IBM to ensure the tech they are developing and selling to the market is built in a way that's ethical and sustainable.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend IBM to a friend?

Yes

Why?

For all the reasons mentioned above - very strong management, development focus, competitive salary and benefits, and a good culture.

How well did the role match your expectations based on the recruitment process?

5/5
My role has matched and in many cases exceeded the expectations I had when applying for it.

When considering the recruitment & onboarding process, have you any specific tips or advice you would give to others applying to IBM?

I found my recruitment process to be pretty smooth and fair. My advice would be to go into each stage and show curiosity and interest, give your opinions but don't drown out others, in fact - encourage them to speak up and challenge you.
