Category Intern Review

As a Category & Marketing Placement Student, I supported a range of category management and marketing activities across multiple product categories. My day-to-day responsibilities included analysing sales and market data, maintaining product and category reporting, coordinating with internal stakeholders, and assisting with marketing campaigns. The role provided exposure to commercial decision-making, data analysis, project management, and cross-functional collaboration, allowing me to contribute to both strategic and operational projects.

Yes, I was entrusted with significant responsibility throughout my placement. I owned several recurring reporting processes, supported key category projects, and worked directly with stakeholders across different functions. As my confidence and knowledge developed, I was given greater autonomy to manage tasks independently, contribute recommendations based on data analysis, and support business-critical initiatives. The level of responsibility provided valuable experience and helped accelerate both my professional and personal development.

During my placement, I developed a strong combination of commercial, analytical, and professional skills. I significantly improved my ability to analyse sales, market, and category data, translating insights into actionable recommendations for stakeholders. The atmosphere was supportive, collaborative, and inclusive, with people genuinely willing to offer guidance and share their expertise. Despite being a placement student, I was treated as an integral member of the team and encouraged to contribute ideas and take ownership of meaningful work. The culture promoted both professional development and personal wellbeing, creating an environment where I felt comfortable challenging myself, asking questions, and building strong relationships. This positive and people-focused culture made the placement both enjoyable and rewarding.
