Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.

As a Software Sales Acceleration Intern within the Data & AI Platform space, my role focuses on supporting the go-to-market strategy and driving awareness of Microsoft’s data solutions. On a day-to-day basis, I work closely with sales and technical teams to understand customer needs, help position solutions, and create engaging content that simplifies complex topics like data platforms, AI, and orchestration.
My responsibilities include researching industry trends, supporting account planning, building presentations and demos, and contributing to creative initiatives such as short podcast-style videos to promote data awareness. I also collaborate cross-functionally with technical sellers and stakeholders to translate technical concepts into business value for clients.

Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?

Yes, I was given a significant level of responsibility during my internship, which allowed me to make a real impact. I had ownership over key projects, particularly around content creation and client engagement initiatives. For example, I led the development of short-form video content aimed at increasing awareness of data platform capabilities, which required both creativity and strategic thinking.
I was trusted to manage my own workstreams, engage with professionals across different teams, and contribute ideas that were implemented in real scenarios. This level of responsibility helped me build confidence, develop my communication and problem-solving skills, and gain a deeper understanding of how sales and technology intersect in a real business environment.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?

During my internship, I developed a wide range of both technical and soft skills. One of the key areas of growth was my ability to communicate complex data and AI concepts in a clear and engaging way, particularly when creating client-facing content and presentations. This helped strengthen my storytelling and communication skills, especially when tailoring messaging to different audiences.
I also improved my commercial awareness and understanding of how data platforms and AI solutions are positioned in a sales context. Working closely with sales and technical teams allowed me to build confidence in discussing business value, customer needs, and solution positioning.
In addition, I developed my project management and organisational skills by handling multiple workstreams simultaneously, including content creation initiatives and research tasks. Collaborating across different teams enhanced my teamwork and stakeholder management skills, while also encouraging me to be proactive and take initiative.
Overall, the experience enabled me to grow both professionally and personally, making me more confident, adaptable, and solution-oriented.

Support and Guidance

How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?

During my internship, I received a strong level of support and guidance throughout, which made it a very positive and valuable experience. I had regular check-ins with my manager, who provided clear direction, feedback on my work, and guidance on how to develop further. This helped me stay aligned with my goals while also giving me the confidence to take ownership of my projects.
In addition to my manager, I was supported by a wider team of experienced professionals who were always approachable and willing to help. Whether I had questions about technical concepts, sales strategies, or ongoing projects, there was always someone available to offer advice or share their expertise.
At the same time, I was encouraged to work independently and take initiative, which created a good balance between guidance and autonomy. This supportive environment allowed me to learn quickly, build confidence, and make meaningful contributions during my internship.
