Overview of Role
Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
My role mainly consisted of monitoring a series of tools to ensure the payroll system was operational and meeting a series of KPIs and SPIs. I completed daily and monthly reports to illustrate this
Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
To begin with it was very difficult to gain much responsibility and there was a lot of oversight. After about 6 months the were opportunities to gain additional responsibilities but these were difficult to come by and very much based on who you know.

Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
learnt a variety of soft and hard skills ranging from excel skills to improving my knowledge of AI and emerging technologies to communication and presentation skills. It was always easy to find opportunities to improve any skill you desired.

How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
from my immediate team there was a lot of support. However, from my overall internship manager contact was very limited to only my 6 month and 12 month review and little effort was made to build a relationship and give meaningful support

Company Culture
What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
Very inclusive culture however there was a lot of remote working so it was often hard to meet new people and you had to put in real effort to go talk to new people. There was very little chance of building connections by just seeing people about in the office

Overall Experience
To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?
My thoughts on my placement are very mixed. Although I had a great experience with some teams and the support some individuals gave me was fantastic and supported my career development, it felt as if others simply couldn't care what I did and what happened after my placement was over. As a result I have very mixed feelings. Despite trying to make the most out of my time, it often felt like some didn't want to give me much to do, especially at the very beginning and end of my placement

Yes
What advice would you give to others applying to IBM
Ensure the role you are offered suits you. If you do not enjoy what you are doing it may be a very dull year. Often its hard to branch out and explore different avenues.
