Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.

Over the last 12 months, I have been the UKI Sales Enablement and Technology Operations intern. I work across many teams, primarily the Sales Enablement team, technology sales and all the business units that fall into IBM UKI tech. I support with enablement delivery, leadership operations, event design and orchestration, data analytics and more. On a daily basis, I am responsible for designing and delivering enablement experiences like Sales Kickoffs, observing and monitor usage metrics, supporting senior leadership operations, managing internal comms campaigns and also representing IBM externally at schools and careers fairs.

Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?

I feel I was given a ton of responsibility during my placement. From day one, I was entrusted with representing senior executives through internal communications, owning event management and orchestration and also given the ability to lead on my own projects with 100% ownership. Being an intern in IBM gives you unlimited access to support and challenges which are the perfect conditions for growth.

Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?

I will take away of wealth of knowledge and skills from my IBM placement. The learning is continuous and available in many ways. There are structured learning courses, opportunities to shadow and learn hands-on, the ability to network and learn from other seasoned IBMers. Primarily, my communication, critical thinking, proactiveness and confidence have grown majorly whilst being here.

Overall Experience

To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?

My placement was amazing. I am glad I made the choice to do one and it's a choice I would make again if I was given the opportunity. I have had 12 months of growth: meeting new people, trying new things, taking calculated risks and learning about technology and the corporate world. There is never nothing to do and always something you can get involved in and contribute to.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend IBM to a friend?

Yes

What advice would you give to others applying to IBM

Be authentic and be yourself. There is often the pressure to be the perfect candidate but the perfect candidate doesn't exist. When IBM are hiring, they are looking to get to know you, your skills, your interests and capabilities - not just the university you went to and the grades you got.
