Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

5/5
I currently work as an Academic People Manager, supporting graduates and apprentices on the Early Careers scheme. My role involves overseeing their development, tracking progress against academic and professional goals, and providing regular coaching and feedback. On a weekly basis, I conduct check-ins, review performance and evidence and support with goal setting.

To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

5/5
I started as a Modern Apprentice on a Business Administration course seven years ago, which gave me the opportunity to progress into my current role as a People Manager and pursue a Chartered Management degree apprenticeship, which I completed in 2025. Overall, I’ve really enjoyed the programme, particularly the strong sense of community that has been built over the years. It has provided me with valuable opportunities for development, networking, and career progression.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

5/5
I have developed a wide range of new and existing skills throughout the programme such as improving my public speaking and overall communication, as well as building confidence in developing myself and supporting others. I’ve also gained a better understanding of finance and how a global business operates, alongside developing technical knowledge that I didn’t have when I first joined the business.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?

4/5
I’ve found the programme to be well organised and continuously improving. Being in a role within the academic team, I’ve been in a fortunate position where it’s been easy to connect with managers and senior leaders to gain support with my development. Over the years, the structure of the programme has evolved significantly, becoming more refined and effective each year.

How much support do you receive from your employer?

5/5
I couldn’t have asked for more support from my managers and team. They have been consistently supportive throughout my journey, providing guidance, encouragement, and opportunities to help me develop and progress.

How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

5/5
The university I attended has provided some of the best support I have received from any training provider. The lecturers were highly engaging and supportive, and I genuinely valued the weekly study days. They offered a great opportunity to network with professionals from other organisations, while also providing a welcome break in the week to focus on learning and development.

How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

5/5
The Chartered Manager degree has been highly relevant to my role and has supported my development effectively. Each module has aligned well with my responsibilities, providing practical knowledge and exposure that I can directly apply in my day-to-day work.

Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

5/5
As a virtual worker, it can sometimes be more challenging to get involved in extra-curricular activities, but I always make an effort to participate where I can. I’ve supported a range of initiatives, including foundation activities, assessment centres, and charity events. DXC offers a wide variety of opportunities, so there is plenty for employees to get involved in.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend DXC to a friend?

Yes

Why?

I would recommend DXC to a friend because of the strong support network, development opportunities, and inclusive community it offers. Throughout my journey, I’ve been given the opportunity to grow both professionally and academically, with consistent support from managers, colleagues, and the wider Early Careers network. There are also plenty of opportunities to get involved in different initiatives, which helps build confidence, skills, and connections across the business.

What tips or advice would you give to others applying to DXC?

My advice to anyone applying to DXC would be to be yourself and make the most of every opportunity. Show a willingness to learn, be proactive, and don’t be afraid to step outside of your comfort zone. There are a lot of opportunities available, so getting involved early and building connections can really help you get the most out of your experience.
