Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

5/5
My role as a Client Technical Specialist involves designing and delivering security solutions that align with client requirements. On a day-to-day basis, I lead proofs of concept, demos, and deployments, develop solution architectures, and build MVPs to validate use cases. I support clients with technical queries, guide product usage and best practices, and run workshops and presentations. I also conduct internal use case testing and benchmarking, while working closely with sales and engineering to drive adoption and ensure successful solution delivery.

To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

5/5
I really enjoy the programme. It’s engaging and gives me exposure to a wide range of clients, challenges, and solution designs. No two situations are the same, which keeps the work interesting and pushes me to think critically and adapt quickly. I enjoy working closely with clients and translating their needs into practical, effective solutions. It offers a strong mix of technical depth and real-world application, and I’m continuously developing my skills through hands-on experience.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

5/5
Absolutely. I’ve developed a strong range of both technical and client-facing skills. This includes a deeper understanding of security standards, concepts, and best practices, as well as how to design and assess secure architectures across different environments.
I’ve also built hands-on experience with solution design, development, and deployments, working across different teams in the programme to deliver and validate solutions through proofs of concept and use case testing. On the softer side, I’ve improved my ability to present technical content clearly, engage with clients, and provide advisory input in a way that builds trust. I’ve also strengthened my approach to demonstrating value through practical, technical delivery, and understanding client problems and requirements and translating them into effective technical solutions.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?

5/5
The programme is very well organised and structured. It provides a clear framework for development while still allowing exposure to a wide range of technical and client work. The support network is strong and consistently responsive, with guidance readily available when needed. Overall, the structure helps balance learning, delivery, and progression effectively, while ensuring there’s always direction and support in place.

How much support do you receive from your employer?

5/5
The support from my employer is excellent. There’s a strong and responsive support network in place, with access to experienced colleagues and clear guidance whenever needed. Managers and wider teams are approachable and proactive, ensuring I always have the help and direction required to progress effectively and deliver work confidently.

How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

5/5
The support from my training provider is very good. There is clear structure and guidance throughout the qualification process, with accessible tutors and timely feedback whenever needed. The resources provided are well organised and aligned to the programme, making it easier to stay on track and apply learning effectively to my day-to-day work.

How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

5/5
The qualification through my training provider supports my role well by reinforcing key technical knowledge in areas such as security principles, architecture design, and best practices. This helps me apply more structured thinking to my day-to-day work, especially when delivering solutions, running proofs of concept, and engaging with clients.
It also strengthens my ability to connect theory with practical application, improving my confidence in technical discussions and my overall effectiveness in translating requirements into workable solutions.

Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

5/5
Yes, there are a wide range of extra-curricular activities available to get involved in at work. These include technical communities focused on areas such as AI and innovation, as well as groups that support soft skills development like presenting and communication. There are also sports activities, professional networking events run by EPS with other organisations and business resource groups that represent different ethnic and cultural communities. There's plenty of options and the option to get involved in any.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend IBM to a friend?

Yes

Why?

I would recommend IBM because it offers a strong mix of meaningful client work, continuous learning, and career development. In my role, I get exposure to a wide range of technical challenges, working closely with clients to design and deliver real solutions, which keeps the work engaging and varied.
There is also excellent support from both the organisation and training providers, along with a well-structured programme that helps you develop both technical and soft skills. On top of that, there are lots of opportunities to get involved in communities, networking events and extracurricular activities, which makes it a great place to grow both professionally and personally.

What tips or advice would you give to others applying to IBM?

Consider how you can demonstrate proactivity. Show how you’ve researched IBM and the role, taken ownership of your preparation and gone beyond what was expected. Also reflect this in examples where you’ve taken initiative or stepped up to deliver more than required.
Think about how you can show value in every response. Focus on your approach, the impact you made and how you improved an outcome.
Make sure curiosity comes through. Show how you ask questions, explore beyond the obvious and actively look to learn and understand more.
And throughout all of this, be personable. Build rapport, communicate naturally and let your personality come through so you’re authentic and easy to work with.
