Overview of the Role

Overall, how would you describe your experience at GXO Logistics?

Overall, my experience at GXO Logistics has been a positive one. I’ve really enjoyed learning a lot in a short space of time, and the role has helped me pick up new skills and gain a better understanding of the organisation. While my first placement hasn’t fully suited my working style, I’ve still valued the chance to push myself and try something new. I’m grateful for the experience so far and am looking forward to my next placement and continuing to learn and develop.

What are the main responsibilities of the role and which elements of the role do you enjoy the most?

One of my main responsibilities has been managing a small team. I’ve really enjoyed this part of the role as it’s allowed me to try out different coaching styles, have regular one-to-one conversations, and support individuals in their development. It’s been particularly rewarding to watch team members grow in confidence and skills, or actively work towards improving themselves. I’ve enjoyed being able to support, guide, and learn alongside the team.

To what extent does your role give you the opportunity to contribute meaningfully and feel valued by your team?

4/5
The role has given me a strong opportunity to contribute and feel valued. Stepping into a leadership role from day one, especially at a smaller site, has meant my ideas and projects have been listened to and taken seriously.

How does your compensation package - including perks & benefits - fairly remunerate you for the work you do?

2/5
I don’t fully feel that the compensation and benefits are on the same level as some of the roles we are following, which can be noticeable at times. That said, I do understand that as graduates we are still learning, which explains why the benefits package is more limited. One area that I think could be improved is relocation and accommodation support, as this would be really beneficial—especially for graduates who need to move location for work.

How well do you feel the role is preparing you for your future career?

4/5
Very well. The role has given me strong hands-on experience from early on, particularly in leadership and responsibility, which I feel will be really valuable for my future career. I’ve been able to develop key skills such as managing people, communication, and problem-solving, while also gaining a good understanding of how the business operates. Overall, it’s helped build my confidence and given me a solid foundation for moving forward in my career.

How would you rate the extent to which you were developing new or existing skills through formal training and your day-to-day role?

4/5
Overall, I would rate this as good, but it is very dependent on the site you are placed at. From my experience, I’ve been able to develop both new and existing skills through my day-to-day role, particularly through hands-on responsibility and learning on the job. However, the level of development and training opportunities can vary depending on the site, the team, and how much exposure you’re given. Where support and opportunities are available, the role is very beneficial for skill development.

Experience & Company Culture

How is the support you receive?

2/5
The support on site was initially quite poor. My line manager had only started two days before me and then went on holiday shortly after, which meant there was very little guidance at the beginning. There was also some uncertainty on site around my role, which resulted in limited training and made the initial period feel quite overwhelming. Additionally, the lack of a visible HR presence on site made it difficult to know who to contact for certain queries, particularly due to the lack of a proper induction.
This experience is not a reflection of the graduate scheme itself, as I feel this is very dependent on the individual site. In contrast, the central team have been very supportive throughout. They have been responsive and helpful when issues were raised or when I had questions, and their support has made a positive difference overall.

How is your work-life balance?

3/5
My work–life balance is quite site dependent. In my role, my working hours are fairly fixed, which helps maintain a routine. However, I often complete development work, such as Fuel learning, or additional tasks at home when needed. I’m aware that many other graduates regularly work overtime, which shows how much the experience can vary depending on the site. Ultimately, as the business operates 24/7 most of the time, some flexibility is expected, but the impact on work–life balance really depends on the site and operational demands.

What is the organisational culture, values and general atmosphere like?

3/5
The organisational culture and atmosphere can be challenging at times. That said, this can vary significantly from site to site. In my experience, while the operational setting can feel tough, there are individuals and teams who are supportive and professional. Overall, the culture is very much driven by the demands of a fast‑paced, operational environment.

How would you rate GXO Logistics initiatives when it comes to equality, diversity, inclusion and accessibility?

4/5
GXO does have Equality, Diversity and Inclusion initiatives in place, and these are more visible at a central level. However, in my experience, how inclusive and welcoming the environment feels can vary greatly from site to site.

How would you rate GXO Logistics CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) initiatives?

4/5
The CSR initiatives are present and promoted, particularly at a central level, but can feel less visible or accessible at site level depending on operational demands. While there is clear focus on ethical and responsible business practices, opportunities to engage in community, volunteering, or environmental initiatives can vary by site.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend GXO Logistics to a friend?

Yes

Why?

I would recommend GXO Logistics, particularly for graduates who are looking for early responsibility, hands‑on experience, and exposure to operational leadership. The role offers strong opportunities to develop skills quickly and gain real insight into the business. However, I would say that individual experiences can vary depending on the site, so it’s important to be open to different challenges and environments.

How well did the role match your expectations based on the recruitment process?

4/5
Largely well. The recruitment process reflected the fast‑paced, operational nature of the role and set expectations around responsibility and learning on the job. While some aspects of day‑to‑day support and training differed depending on the site, the overall role aligned with what was communicated during recruitment. to a certain extent for graduates who have not worked in a warehouse before, it is unlikely anything will prepare you fullt for starting, so you just need to go in with an open mind

When considering the recruitment & onboarding process, have you any specific tips or advice you would give to others applying to GXO Logistics?

My advice would be to come in with an open mindset and be prepared to take initiative early on. The role can be very site dependent, so being adaptable, confident in asking questions, and proactive in seeking learning opportunities is important. I would also recommend building relationships quickly with your team and wider stakeholders, as this can make a big difference to your experience.
