Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

4/5
Day to day running of transport. Holiday management, resource management.
Meetings, despatch debrief and covering of shift manager

To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

5/5
Programme was great, taught me much more than GXO has in the nearly 5 years I have been with the company. Learnt valuable skills to take with me into the future

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

5/5
Learnt conflict management, time management skills, communication and learning styles.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?

5/5
Great organisation

How much support do you receive from your employer?

3/5
Shift manager supported greatly, other management caused me a great deal of stress by putting too much pressure on me to complete inhouse GXO training during my end point assessment.
Shift manager allowed me sufficient time off to complete the apprenticeship and eased my workload to ensure that I could complete the coursework.

How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

5/5
Support was fantastic, she did a great job and was there when I needed her and was very respectful of my working hours.

How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

5/5
I have learnt valuable skills that I otherwise would not have.

Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

1/5
There are extra-curricula activities however these are all during the day shift and typically only the AM shift manager is invited- for example driver of the year, only 1 shift manager is allowed to go and it is always the AM shift. However all the drivers that have won have been night shift drivers so there is clear preferential treatment of who is able to get involved.
Social activities always consist of outside drinking, or minor sports such as bowling, these are not paid events (GXO do not provide any finances towards these events) this means that most people will miss out as they cannot afford these events. This leads to it always been the same faces in the pictures. The events also always take place during the evening so there is no openness for night shift workers to partake.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend GXO Logistics to a friend?

No

Why?

GXO is a hard company to work for, the blame culture can create a toxic environment and the success of staff is often ignored or their achievements/ideas are taken by upper management as their own.
There is constant understaffing issues due to tight budgets, workload is increased and the pressure with it. Upper management does not consider the impact on the staff's physical and mental health. HR is difficult to work with and often just delegate their work to other management.
There is no benefit to working here, you do not get a christmas bonus or even a thank you. If you want to go to a party, you need to organise it yourself and pay for it. This is disappointing for such a huge company.

What tips or advice would you give to others applying to GXO Logistics?

Expect a decent wage, but a stressful life. Take the training and experience but hold no expectations. Keep legal above all else, so that you are always covering your own back.
There is progression for low level, e.g. Clerk to Team Leader however it is unlikely you will progress further especially if you are empathetic.
It isn't all bad, if you get a great manager there is room to learn and take these skills with you into the future.
