Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

5/5
I am a software engineer delivering mission-critical digital infrastructure and digital processes on the cloud and on-premise on a public sector project that will affect millions of people's lives in the UK.

To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

5/5
Through this programme I have been able to shortcut my path to become a DevOps Engineer that would otherwise have taken me decades to get to, I got to start working and cracking on straight after my A-Levels and have been able to gain crucial experience that has jumpstarted my career.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

5/5
I have learnt a massive range of both hard and soft skills, I have learned hundreds of technical concepts on the job and through the situations that arise I have been given agency to deliver presentations, lead delivery of multiple aspects and hence work on and improve my soft skills across a range of different work aspects.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?

5/5
The programme has a gradual ramp-up which helped me familiarise myself with the ways of working and settling into the 80-20 routine of work and uni, and now that I have more agency responsibility and experiences that complements and helps my evidencing of key objectives for my apprenticeship.

How much support do you receive from your employer?

5/5
My foundation manager is always there to help and especially when I am going through any rough patches or I need support she knows exactly where I can get further support or how I can navigate through the programme to boost my career and mental state.

How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

5/5
My training provider has been great at helping me work towards my qualification, by having a dedicated university mentor I always have someone I can ask questions about the programme to and through tri-partite meetings including my IBM manager I am kept on track and reminded of any key deadlines and how to prepare for those to help me achieve my qualifications.

How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

5/5
I have learnt many key technical concepts as part of my qualification and academic learning that I have been able to directly apply to my day-to-day work to directly improve my delivery on any of my project assignments. Additionally, the synoptic project required by my training provider directly encouraged me to deliver a project of my own to improve internal processes that I wouldn't have done otherwise if not incited by my training provider

Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

5/5
There are countless of socials and communities that I have joined and gone to, for networking with other IBMers, early professional communities, technical communities, Familia (Latino/spanish-speaking community) and other BRG communities. I've personally attended many many events like mini-golf, football 5-a-side tournaments, drinks after work, or even christmas meals
