Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

I conduct leakage surveys on the water network, utilising numerous amounts of specialist equipment to locate hidden leaks. I investigate points of interest generated from noise loggers or acoustic hydrophone sensors to derive an outcome if a leak is present. I speak to customers, stakeholders and other departments on a daily basis as part of my role.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

The apprenticeship programme was really good as it allows you to learn all aspects of the water industry in an in depth way and allows you to expand your knowledge throughout the programme.
There is a good mix of classroom and practical learning and a lot of support is available throughout.
It gives you good knowledge of the water network which you can take back to your mentors on site and develop that knowledge.

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

I have learnt new skills and developed existing skills since completing the apprenticeship.
I have developed my knowledge in real life scenarios on site in active leak detection and the knowledge attained during the apprenticeship is really useful and I have passed a lot of information onto other technicians in my team who have not undertaken the apprenticeship such as how different assets work and legislation etc...
I am now looking to undertake the level 4 advanced license To operate.

Structure and Support
How well organised/structured is your programme?

The programme was very organised. We received a programme timetable of what subjects we would be covering on what days and we received regular one to one meetings and reviews.
How much support do you receive from your employer?

We all received regular one to one catch up meetings from our early careers partner and from our managers. We undertook regular apprentice performance reviews where any questions were answered and if any further support was needed. We had a mentor assigned to us.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

We had dedicated course work and revision days to revise and complete any coursework. We had mock tests and mock on site assessments to prepare us for end point assessments. We had teams calls to discuss what needed to be done and if any support was needed to complete the apprenticeship.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

The apprenticeship allowed me to learn all aspects of the water industry in an in depth way that you wouldn't get to learn anywhere else. This knowledge allows me to be confident and pass this information onto other technicians in my team who may not have the in depth knowledge. This knowledge that we have attained also allows you to progress through different streams of the business.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

I have participated in an early careers evening where people looking to apply could look at all the different job roles available and I had to talk through what my job role entails and talk about the apprenticeship experience.

Anglian Water is a great company to work for. You are really well looked after and it is a job for life. Every day is enjoyable and no two days are the same. It allows you to gain lots of skills, knowledge and valuable experience. There are lots of opportunities to upskill and to progress through different work streams of the business.

Apply as it is a job for life and a great company to work for.
