My role as Data Analyst apprentice at Anglian Water was one that I had found fascinating from the beginning. My day to day responsibilities would differ based on the current placement that I was completing, however to show some consistency I will mention some common topics. I would do things such as data cleansing to prepare company data for analysis, I would analyse datasets to look at trends and patterns and insights, I would also liaise with my stakeholders to present my findings. Above all that I would also have the opportunity to network within the company with multiple people of different positions in the company hierarchy. Last but not least I would also spend 20% of my time learning the curriculum of the apprenticeship. I had a most lovely balance between work, networking as well as learning.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

My programme deserves all the applause it can possibly receive. I had gained and developed so many core skills that I will be able to use for the rest of my career. I have learned to use software such as Power BI, Databricks as well as other company specific material. Upon that I had also had the opportunity to develop my soft skills which I can say have greatly benefited me in my role as I know how to approach each situation with confidence. The apprenticeship in general offered the best support I have experienced in my learning journey.

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

I have learned new skills as well as developed many existing skills. I have developed soft skills such as confidence, communication, time management and accountability to a degree where I can confidently say that I am able to approach all situations with the right approach based on my audience. Furthermore I have grasped hard skills such as coding, this proficiency is what allows me to excel in my job and provide my team and my stakeholders with the insights they require.
Structure and Support
How well organised/structured is your programme?

The structure of the programme was logical and thought through. I had six modules and they all covered the relevant information that I would need in order to carry out my job. We started by learning the fundamentals and then rationally moved onto the more advanced topics.
How much support do you receive from your employer?

My employer provided my with great support. Something that I had really valued during my time were frequent one to one sessions where I was able to voice my thoughts and feeling on the programme and how I am doing at work. I think this support is exactly what I needed as it meant that I was able to proactively review how I am performing and what I want to do next.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

The training provider offered great support and I had regular review sessions to see how I am doing. I was also really happy as if I had any queries or wanted someone to review my work this would be done within 24 hours, usually even less.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

I am one hundred percent positive that my qualification helps me perform better in my role. It gave me the solid foundation I needed to build the skills I required to do my job. This foundation is exactly what allows me to grasp more and learn more now to become even better.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

Yes there are plenty of extra curricular activates that you can get involved at work and I had attended multiple myself. I had personally done things such as visit parliament, go to a data conference in London as well as played some 5 a-side football to raise money for charity. These are only a few and there are many more that are available such as the WaterAid Ball.

Why?
The support this company offers is beyond anything imaginable. Being able to wake up on a Monday morning an be excited to go to work is a feeling that I wish most had, this is exactly what I have. Day to day I am involved in projects that are changing things around me and are making an impact, this drive is exactly what this company gives me and what most should seek. Combined all of the previous things with the support received and I say that Anglian Water is the perfect company.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Anglian Water?
When applying to Anglian Water I would advice on reading and understanding the company values, as at the bottom of everything you need to remember what you are doing and where your responsibilities lay.
