Overview of Role
Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

We do placements of 6 to 9 months in different areas of the business including Cyber Security, Enterprise Architecture, Data and Azure. We have objectives for each placement to allow us to develop new skills as well as contribute back to the business. We get 20% of our time allocated to our university work which allows us to keep a good work-uni-life balance.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

I really enjoy this programme as AW are so supportive, as well as allowing us work experience in so many different areas. They are very supportive of our university work and are flexible with how and when we take our study time, and check in with us often to see how we're doing. I've been able to experience what it's like to be a student while still getting work experience in a supportive environment.
Skills Development
Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

In university I have learnt how to code in Java, Python, C# as well as web development, game development and other technical areas. At work I have learnt about Operational Technology, Cyber Security as well as Powerapps and Power automate. I have also learnt how to use some of the businesses specialist software.
Structure and Support
How well organised/structured is your programme?

It is structured very well, being split into placements of 6-9 months while still being flexible in terms of allowing us to work in the best way for us.
How much support do you receive from your employer?

It is a very supportive company, we have our line managers, placement managers and mentors always being their for us as well as feeling like we could ask anyone in the business for help.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

We recieve a decent amount of help from our university but our company often has to push for information such as dates for on campus days.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

It's been really useful to develop the technical skills at university as it has allowed us to spend less time training in our placements and more time working on actual projects. It's also been useful to see what we like doing allowing us to choose placements that may be a better fit.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

We do apprentice events that I get involved with, some social events such, as well as I get involved with some societies on the university side of the apprenticeship

Why?
They have been a very supportive company, allowing me to learn more about different areas in interested in, everyone is always willing to help.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Anglian Water?
Just be open about what you want to learn and are interested in, theres a bigger focus on your attitude and approach to tasks/ problems rather than your technical skills going in, I've heard a few people say that it's a lot easier to teach people technical skills than a good attitude.
