My role as a second year maintenance technician apprentice at Anglian water involves multiple different opportunities and doings.
This involves One week a month at Grantham college, and the rest field based shadowing mentors and learning along the way. I take one day a week ‘study hours’ to keep myself up to date with the required logbooks and job write-ups, which is very important to head towards completing this apprenticeship at a good standard.
This year at college has mainly been studying for exams and building my knowledge in the theory side of this role (Health and safety, Engineering principles and Electrical/electronic principles).
On a normal day at work, I meet my mentor and head out on site to complete the required jobs, electrical or mechanical. I report every job I do in my diary which helps me with updating my college logbook and notes for my writeups, where I can also look back and see what I did if I was to attend a job like this again and what I learnt from the task.
Overall this apprenticeship offers multiple practical and academic skills, where I can use this learning to create a strong career.

I’d like to rate this apprenticeship program at a high standard, as it has the best benefits and provides a brilliant outcome by the end of the apprenticeship.

I have developed skills both academically and practically. This is through being hands on in the field and academic on the theory side at college.
As my role is becoming a qualified electromechanical maintenance technician, I am constantly developing my knowledge in both of these areas, being able to shadow and practically doing it myself.
The job entails all different tasks, from fault finding to installations plus many more activities. This makes everyday different which has built much more interest in a wide range of jobs.
As I attend training courses, college and every day worklife, I get to meet all different people which has built my team bonding and team work skills, creating a healthy environment and happy workspace.

What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Anglian Water?
I would recommend anyone to just be themselves, and present the best of there abilities. This is because Anglian water is very inclusive and support everyone knowing everybody is different. Anglian water have multiple support programmes which gives help in all different aspects.
