Overview of Experience

Please give an overview of the insight and what was involved on a day-to-day basis.
We had a series of interactive webinars about the various aspects of investment banking and Rothschild. We had the opportunity to network with analysts and HR, as well as other students on the programme. We worked on a project in a small team and presented to senior bankers. We also had some teaching on technical skills and an icebreaker.
What was it like understanding all about the business and potential roles available?
The sessions were really informative. We learnt about the various divisions at Rothschild and what bankers do on a day-to-day basis. I gained a huge understanding of Rothschild from attending this insight, beyond what is available online.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
We learnt lots of skills during the program, especially the session with HR, which taught us what investment banking recruiters are looking for. This will help towards future application processes, both for Rothschild and elsewhere.
In terms of technical skills, Rothschild had collaborated with an external training provider, which taught us about investment banking technicals.

What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
Even though this insight was run virtually, it was evident that the atmosphere at Rothschild is excellent. Everybody seemed very nice and took time to answer our questions. There was a clear sense of collaboration and unity. There were lots of social events and opportunities to network with others. There was also a strong focus on inclusivity and diversity.

Overall Experience

To what extent did you enjoy the insight?
I really enjoyed this insight programme. It was the perfect balance between being informative and interactive. The timetable was packed, which meant that there were lots of activities to do throughout the day so I did not feel bored at any point (quite the opposite really!). The project was also fun and interesting. The programme, being virtual, far exceeded my expectations and I would definitely recommend this to others.

Would you recommend Rothschild & Co to a friend?
Yes
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Rothschild & Co
Whilst I don't think I am able to disclose much about the application process, what I will say is that Rothschild is looking for more than just someone who knows about finance. Although the technicals are initially difficult to get to grips with, these can pretty much be taught to anyone with a bit of time/effort. Instead, Rothschild is looking for soft skills and personality, as these are not teachable.
