Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

During my job role, i have to help pre-test patiets before their eye exam with the optometrist. This means using all of the diagnostics equipment to ensure their sight test will flow through smoothly without any issues. Once the sight test is done im responsible for handling the 3 - way handover with myself, the patient and the optometrist. The optom tells us what the patients needs, and we help the patiet to pick out what frames they like during frame styling. My job also includes dispensing and doing collections. Which means making up the patients glasses ( what lenses they're having, which frames, which offers we're doing, what treatments theyd like etc) and also collecting their glasses. Ensuring their vision is clear and they fit comfortably. Sometimes the patient will struggle to adapt to their glasses if there's an issue, which we would then do a spec challenge. My job role also includes lots of other things such as looking at referrals, prescriptions, and lots of other tecnology and optcal based tasks.

To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

I enjoy what i do, i look forward to going to work each day as I'm surrounded by positive people as well as a positive environment. There do come challenges with the job, especially when it comes to angry customers who wont listen to you. But, i really enjoy all the different tasks in my job role, and cannot wait to qualify.

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

I've developed thousands of skills that i never would've known before starting this job. The in particular skill iv'e learned is how to communicate with the public. I learn new things everyday and will continue to do so.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?

My programme is very well structured especially when it comes to when I'm set different tasks to do by my apprenticeship coaches. They allow enough time for me to meet deadlines and set achievable goals.

How much support do you receive from your employer?

My team in store, and my apprenticeship coaches are all very supportive of me. I always know when to call for help or support and feel comfortable doing so.

How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

I recieve support when i need it. However i usually try and reach goals set for me independantly.

How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

Yes, our directors always plan fun activities to do and for good causes. For example, mud run for cancer, wreath making at Christmas, summer./ Christmas parties. This helps all the stores to remain active and sociable.
