Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
There is a lot of variety, based on what project and team you're working with. But generally, there'll be a stand up once a day, 2-3 meetings and time to get work done. However, wherever you are in the company, the work will always be collaborative.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
4/5
The work side is very well thought out and generally makes the apprenticeship useful. The university side helps to provide the theoretical perspective, allowing us to understand underlying principles, ready to be used in reality the next Monday morning.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
This apprenticeship has developed many skills, but particularly, the soft skills. As this is my first job and first corporate role, it has allowed me to understand concepts like networking, pitching, gaining useful information from clients etc.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
3/5
As the job relies heavily on each apprentice to find their own projects, the structure is dependent on how much time they are on projects and not on the bench (not working, due to not having a role). The university side is well structured and ensures there is scheduled learning.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
4/5
We have managers, both at work and uni. This means we have people to discuss issues with in both settings. Generally, any issues are resolved thoroughly and they don't get repeated.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
5/5
We can ask for extra time occasionally to complete assignments and colleagues are happy to provide help with technical concepts, if they are familiar with the area.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
4/5
The qualification is created in collaboration with the training provider, so it is designed to be useful in the workplace. Accordingly, topics like change management and service management have made my job easier and made me understand more about my area of work.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
5/5
IBM has great extra-curriculars as part of communities. There are a wide range of them, from apprentice-based to Asian groups and sports based communities.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend IBM to a friend?
Yes
Why?
There is so much variety, in the types of work we do, so you could have a long career here and never be bored.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to IBM?
Be enthusiastic and demonstrate it. This just means find an area of interest and do training courses in it. This shows you have the ability to work hard and that you have interest in the areas you want to work in.
