Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
5/5
Execute PPC day-to-day tasks, including approving copies and sending out the tactical show list every month.
Upskill in digital marketing terminology, e.g. attribution, incrementality, ad verification and metrics such as CTR, CPM, CPA, CPC, etc.
Lead our weekly performance calls where we review data and performance of current assets to suggest optimisations.
Support the team with experiments by creating experiment cards outlining test set-up, variables, hypothesis, etc.
Create wireframes to help build our Tableau dashboards and maintain them by refreshing the comms every week.
Shadow and learn with the team on advancement in MarTech.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
I loved it! It felt like I had a good balance of responsibilities and freedom to learn and explore different areas that interested me. I felt like Channel 4, as an employer, was supportive of me starting out in the corporate world at such a young age. We had groups and socials with all the apprentices as well as the team being super supportive and patient with me as I learnt new skills.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
100%. I learnt new hard skills, such as using analytics platforms like Tableau, project management tools like Monday.com, and basic marketing functions, e.g., SLAs and briefing processes. I also learnt and developed softer skills such as confidence in presenting, how to think analytically and how to build interpersonal relationships.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
3/5
Although I had a lot of support and was constantly communicating where I wanted to upskill and learn more about, this required me to be proactive most of the time, as it was not embedded into the system. As apprentices are so early in their careers and have little knowledge of the workspace/ where they want to go in the future, it would have been great to have had a little more structure to help guide my development. Having said that, we did have monthly sessions to help support the more manual tasks, e.g. writing emails, etc.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
As previously said, the employer has always been very supportive and open to me exploring the areas I've had interest in however I'd say that my team/manager were the biggest contributors to this. There was support with working towards my qualification, mainly around space, flexibility and time to work on it as required; however, I'd say that the actual tasks themselves were mainly down to me to crack on and little room for them to review or provide feedback due to busy workloads.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
3/5
There was support, for sure, in answering questions. However, my course was new, so even the learning provider was unsure about how to handle the requirements. I felt there was little structure, which often led to last-minute requests. This wasn't ideal as we are also managing workload.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
3/5
It helps with a few things; however, I found it wasn't as aligned with what I was doing in my role as I'd hoped.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
5/5
In general, plenty! Not so much for the apprentice community to get together however we'd organise that ourselves.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend Channel 4 to a friend?
Yes
Why?
It's a great place to start off, it's well respected in the industry and it is a fun, quirky place to work.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Channel 4?
Look into their brand values and embody them through your interview process. Show proactiveness where you can to demonstrate real interest/passion. Don't worry about experience; hunger to learn matters most. Use their tools online to support your application process. Online courses/ volunteering/ placements make a difference.
