Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
5/5
My role as press & publicity apprentice involved providing administrative support to the press and publicity team as well as research and edit written content for press releases, programme descriptions, newsletters and briefing materials. I also assisted at press launches, screenings and events - managing guest lists, helping organise transport and looking after talent.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
This apprenticeship was the best decision I have ever made. It wholly suited my on-the-job learning style and was the most insightful and amazing 15months ever.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
I would say during the 15months, there is not one day where I was not learning/honing or picking up a new skill. Whether that be literacy skills, communication and organisational management or more practical skills such as how to book transport for talent/manage a guest list- I have learnt SO much.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
5/5
The apprentice programme at Channel 4 is exceptionally well structured with 15months being- I believe- the perfect timespan to both learn and also apply that learning on real life projects.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
The 4skills team at Channel made me feel wholly and utterly supported right from my first day induction, all the way to my final day as an apprentice. They are always happy to answer any questions and offer a helping hand wherever needed.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
5/5
I had a personal tutor throughout my business administration qualification with whom I built a close relationship. We would have regular sessions and catch ups where she outlined what I needed to complete, how I could do so and helped me wherever needed.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
4/5
I felt the huge benefit of my qualification was that it was for the broader 'business administration' as opposed to specifically comms. Therefore meaning, what I learnt during this time can be applied to multiple roles not just press.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
5/5
Yes- there are many at all of the different offices. We do many socials/catch ups/ networking evenings.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend Channel 4 to a friend?
Yes
Why?
Joining Channel 4 was like joining one big family in which I feel wholly respected, valued and supported. It is now such a big part of my life, I can't imagine my life if I hadn't opted for the apprenticeship scheme.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Channel 4?
Research company values and vision as these will show your passion for the Channel as opposed to just general/sweeping media companies.
