Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
5/5
Throughout my apprenticeship I am placed in the different teams within social work. I have began my journey in Targeted Early Help, where I was originally shadowing to build my confidence. I am now leading on visits, as well as completing my own visits, direct work and meetings. I complete admin following this and upload to the system. I begin my placement in May, where I start in the children's and young people team. I am supported by Barnsley Children's Social Work academy, with frequent supervisions (personal and professional). I also attend apprentice support sessions which are great for my knowledge and development.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
The apprenticeship is great and everyone I have met along my journey are really welcoming and supportive. The apprenticeship is a great route to become a social worker, gaining practical skills each day.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
My development is mapped against the Social Work KSB's (Knowledge, Skills and Behaviours), which is discussed in my supervisions and apprentice review meetings with university.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
5/5
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
Everyone involved is friendly and supportive, which makes it easy for me to reach out for help whenever needed. I have regular supervisions, access to apprentice support sessions, and take part in apprenticeship review meetings. These reviews are attended by my mentor alongside the university, ensuring consistent guidance throughout my learning journey.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
5/5
I receive a high level of support from my training provider while working towards my qualification. They offer regular guidance, constructive feedback, and are always available to answer questions or provide clarification when needed. The support is well‑structured and helps me to stay on track with my learning, build confidence, and link theory effectively to my practice.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
5/5
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
4/5
There are regular opportunities for professional development and networking. In Early Help, frequent training sessions are held with SPREADS, which support learning, multi‑agency working, and skill development. These sessions provide valuable opportunities to engage with professionals, build knowledge, and enhance practice beyond day‑to‑day work.
